This was the only one of 20 that did it? It was new ammo had a tupperware filled we ran about 100 rounds of it all together only 20 were the CBC head stamp. No noticeable big bang or anything. I did run a sharpie over the split to help it show for the pic.

I get a few like that. Reloading since 91, adding new once fired everytime I go. So, not sure of how old the brass is. I've had new rounds that wouldn't fire, or primer in side ways and just smoke.

A lot of people swearing they reload it, these all went in the scrap bucket. I am not taking a chance on it. I was a bit miffed no other signs of over pressure or anything. If this had happened on one of my reloads I would have freaked...

I WAS loading 1k per week, 38spl, never looking at the name on the brass. I was scraping 20 to 100 cases per session. Mostly nickel, 1/4" crack in the neck to full body crack. Load it till you can't. I haven't been to a range in 9 month. All here are indoor and don't want lead boolits.

I wish we had a Stone's river gun range here.

We are talkinga bout CBC brass specifically. Almost any other brand can be loaded multiple times but CBC can't get their initial loads safe.

I pay close attention to nickel cases. Thed reason is nickel can ruin a set of dies if it has a crack or is flaking off. It will scratch and leave a burr on the inside of the die. Once that happens every piece of brass will have a scratch. There is no easy way to fix it either without changing internal dimensions. Same goes for range pick ups that might have sand or dirt on the cases. A stray piece of sand can also ruin dies. This is why I always tumble or wash the cases before they hit the first die.

All very good advice. I have some CBC cases [45 Colt] that are stoked up to +p+ levels. I noticed I get cracked necks in about half of them, and they were once fired [by me]. I didn't know of CBC'c craptastic brass at the time. I toss them all. Cracked or not. I have about 30 rounds left. I'm not overly fond of shooting them either. I just buy new Starline cases from Midway or once fired Federal cases if I can find them. I also keep Win brass for easy loads.

Hey Fries, what caliber is this you're dealing with???
