What gun did you use to take your carry permit class?

XD-9Tac. Shots at 3, 7, 15 yards. Mark (Instructor) saw my target, and asked that I aim at a different spot so he could count the rounds, then laughed and walked on.

Your instructor counted the holes? Our class had enough to shoot as 2 groups during the range portion. A more experienced group that had their own gun, and frequented the range, and the secondary group of those that just bought a gun or had little to no shooting experience. He didn't even bother counting holes on our group as we all clearly qualified, 1 ragged whole or scattered - it didn't matter. No one missed or went outside the 7 ring. He just walked down the line "pass" and signed target for each one of us.

glock 31c,

I agree it was easy test if you like shooting. but we shot out to 25 yards 6 rounds. one handed, weak hand, on one knee at 3 yards. An .22 cals was not allowed to be used durning our class.

Oh, he was in no way serious. There were roughly 40 people in our class, and 9 of those were a group of us from my office. They were pumping people through as fast as they could, but there were definitely some people there that needed a little "extra" attention.

I grew up in the Northeast, and was brainwashed into thinking that guns are bad and only bad people carry guns, so when I took my permit test a couple years ago, had shot a total of about 20 handgun rounds in my life. I rented the last Glock they had (26) and got a 93. My wife showed me up with a 100 on a rented S&W revolver.

I'm a ton better now, but my point is like an earlier poster, you could pass this with a slingshot and a blindfold. Keep training, but don't sweat this test.

I used a Ruger blackhawk .357. After about 25 shots the ejector rod housing flew off. I finished with my 357 Desert Eagle.

My Bersa Thunder .380 that was new out of the box and never fired. It had been about 10 years since I shot a handgun so I was glad it was easy. I'm pretty sure anyone could pass it.

Taking mine next Saturday @ On Target in Knoxville. There was a LivingSocial 1/2 off coupon for the class so I got it for $39.00. I am using my Springfield XD 4"

I shot a Ruger SP101 .357 mag...I shot the .38 special bullets. I hadn't shot handguns in a few years before taking the HCP test, and I passed easily.

I used my xd45 and made 47 out of 50 in the red bullseye. 7yds 12 yds and 25yds were distances we shot at. The xd is great, if you know your gun decent, you'll be fine. I go to the range 3-5 times per year with various firearms. Good luck. Pay attention.

You fail if you shoot the guy even once? Everyone makes mistakes!

I call a Mulligan....

I took mine with a Taurus 24/7 9mm, although I am not a Taurus fan. I can't really remember the distances. It wasn't bad thought. Something like 15-20 rounds at 5,10 and 15 yards. It was by no means a sharp shooting contest. You'll do fine.

686 6 inch ported but i used the .38 rounds, i can shoot that gun as well as any rifle but as has been stated you would have to be an idiot to fail this test IMO. There were a few people in the class that didnt even know what kind of gun they had, They just knew who made it.

I personally used an XD 40. I carry a Sig Sauer 1911 now though.
