First off the load data I'm using.

124g precision delta JHP

1.06 OAL

Winchester primers

4.2g of Universal

The gun used Glock 17C

Do you think by the pics below that I'm building up to much pressure? Ejection seemed week maybe a foot to the right. Looks like it is real close to a compressed load.

Nah, you're fine.

How did they shoot? Cycle well, accurate? If so, party on.

What I'm fixing to say is NOT to be construed as a thumbs up for shody reloading practices. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS follow the load data in your book!! Always.

They are giving you data for standard pressure loads. The G17 is a LEO favorite the world over. LEO's routinely use +P and +P+ ammunition safely, and by the truck load. LIKE I SAID NOW this doesn't mean going beyond the load data you have, but it should be reassuring that gun is built to handle it all day long.

.....PS, Never go above above maximum listed loads listed in your load manual.:D

Cycle seemed weak to me but it did eject. Hodgdon says 4.3 to 4.9 I guess I could bump it up a little to get better cycling. The primers just looked like they were blowing back some to me. I just wanted a second opinion before I continued.

Thanks

Hi LetZrock

Was web-searching flat primers recently, and came across the advice that flat primers can happen from too-hot charges and also too-weak charges.

The explanation was that if a load is too weak, then it doesn't expand the primer enough and lets the primer back out, then as the case strikes the bolt face it flattens the primer.

Dunno if that is true but saw the theory on several threads.

So maybe you will get less-flat primers with a hotter load?

Can't quite tell from the pic but those look like the standard Glock smeer that comes with those guns. Maybe fire some factory and compare.

Thats what I'm going to do. I have loaded 1000,s of 115g FMJ but I can't remember what the primer looked like. Ill do more testing in the day light :) neighbors probable didn't like me blasting away last night at 9:00.
