Ruger M-77 Scope rings.

Ok...I'm scratching my head on these Ruger scope mounts. Seems like Ruger has to be in a league of it's own. I tryied to upgrade my scope...to a Atec....but the scope tube is too large, it hits the rifle barrel. Now, doing a little research....it seems that different mfg'ers....offer these mounts in three sizes. Guess my question is....if you've done this.....do you go with the "highest" mount on the front, and the middle size, or the smallest on the rear?

You want the same size on the front and back. Ruger has its own rings, so make sure you buy rings that are designed for ruger rifles. Whats the size of your new scope, that will determine the ring height. Also ensure the the ring diameter and scope tube diameter are the same. 1 inch is the most common.

Im pretty sure I had the taller ring in the back on my M77. I fought with that for a while to get my scope to line up right. pm sent
