Winchester Ranger T-Series 147gr. 9mm?

Okay. Normally I have a magazine full of either 1) Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr. PFHP or 2) Hornady TAP 124 gr. JHP loaded in my EDC, my Sig P226. However, I've seen A LOT of folks tout the Ranger Talons as the best load for self-defense. Unfortunately, The Ranger T-Series does not come in a 124 gr. that is NOT +p. And I'd just as soon not use +p.

So I've been considering the Ranger 147 gr. 9mm for the ammunition to load into my EDC. Looking at the published ballistics, which shows something like 990fps, this is similar, but still faster than the .45ACP round.

1. Would you use the Ranger Talon 147gr 9mm? 2. Does the heavier weighted bullet do anything to the barrel? Strike that - I guess not else they would not market the round.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Not sure why you don't want to shoot the +P. If there was ever a gun that would have no issue with it, you have it in your Sig. The Ranger T 127gr +p has an impressive record. The 147's not so much. The amount of felt recoil between the two wouled be minimal if any at all. The 127's are approaching the ballistics of the .357sig/magnum. As far as the 147's wear on your barrel, it would be no more than any other jacketed bullet. Each would shoot to different point of impact, but that's about it.

I would choose whick ever load shoots/functions best/most accurate in your gun. Then its up to you to shoot it well for good shot placement ! Yes some have better results where data was recorded and rounds tested but if you dont place it where it counts than it was a lost $1.00 bullet.

Just me .02 worth.

Assuming it's reliable and reasonably accurate from your handgun, it's a great round and what I'm currently carrying in 9mm.

It's superior to the two other rounds you've mentioned.

I've found the 147gr Ranger-T to be...

-100% reliable

-Accurate

-Lower recoil

-Very low flash

-Excellent terminal ballistics

For me, it's a toss up between this and Federal's 147gr HST.

Also, don't get hung up on velocity. Today's premium JHPs have "operating windows" that are superior to the JHPs of old.
