Hunting near Johnson city

Hey, I looking for some place to hunt near JC, I have hunted the Nat. Forest or should say have tried to hunt it, everyplace I have tried is straight up and straight down or is so thick that you can walk through it. I'm fairly new to the area and grew up hunting the flat lands and rolling hills of middle TN. I like to hunt most anything and am looking for small game places now, so if anybody has some ideas of some places for a start I would be very thankful.

All of the public land on our end of the state is mountains and they're rough to hunt. The only flat land hunting around here requires leasing a farm or becoming very good friends with the owners of one. And most of our large farms have turned into subdivisions, so there's not many in the Tri-Cities to begin with. There's deer in the mountain, but you must put time into scouting to be successful.
