A guy came into the police department the other day to ask a favor. He had a S&W 629 (.44 Mag) that he wanted to dispose of after a mishap at the range.

He said there was a loud bang when he tested his new ammo (Chinese made), and the gun smacked him in the forehead, leaving a nice gash.

When the tweety birds cleared from around his head, the pictures show what he saw.

Bet he never uses Chinese made ammo again!

Looks like when the round in the chamber went off, It also set off at least two other rounds in adjacent cylinders.

I would have hated to been the one that pulled the trigger on that one!

Hoax because revolvers never malfunction! If you have any more questions I'll be out back putting 10k more rounds of Norinco ball through my Glock 17.

Seriously, I saw that picture a while ago. I believe that is actually a 686 or whatever a 357 mag like that would be. Doesn't it look small to be a 44mag shell? The only thing that makes me wonder is how clean it all is.

Another thing is that I am a 44mag shooter and I can't recall ever seeing chinese made 44mag shells.

Hate to break the news but this is as old as the internet (or at least since S&W started using internal locks ;))

For one thing there is no Chinese 44 magnum ammo. If anything it was a bad handload.

Google "44 magnum chinese ammo accident" and it's all over the place. :)

Subscribed. Obviously a HOT load.

I've had a few "minor" issues with foreign ammo and try to stick with USA made but I have had good luck with Sellier & Bellot.

I just thought of something. Would it really hit you in the head. If the top blew off wouldn't the frame push down? The top may have hit him in the head.

While the pic is scary, I doubted the accuracy of the story, even before I read the comments. I vote for VERY bad reloads.

They don't have Dirty Harry in China? Those poor depraved souls.

It obviously ignited the cylinders next to it as well making it even more explosive. My guess it a way too hot of a load. Even an obstruction wouldn't have resulted in the same amount of destruction. It was a lot of powder or the wrong type of powder, I suspect both because that turned into a hand grenade.

Wonder why there is only 3 rounds loaded?

PLus Im no expert but how can the other rounds ignite no matter how over loaded the middle round was loaded?

No matter how old the images are Id have to call hoax.
