Given the glut, you’d think that cities would stop. Instead, many are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to expand convention centers and open yet more dazzling hotels, arguing that whatever convention business remains will flow to the places with the fanciest amenities. If this dubious rationale proves wrong and the facilities fail—it’s telling that the private sector won’t build them on its own—taxpayers will wind up on the hook, as usual.

Slightly Off Topic; Nashville is also buying everything thay can to build parks that to my knowledge produce little/no income for the city.

No, Nashville is different. I know this for a fact because the mayor and city council told us so before they borrowed $1 billion to build this gran hall. All of a sudden living in Cheatham County ain't such a bad thing.

Yea they definitely know how to waste money. I wish they would abolish the Metro Government and go back to a original County and City.

I escaped Nashville 8yrs ago. It seemed like they would "find " money for things (extra funds out of the water dept.) that "they" deemed were "necessary" to keep the city going whereas all I saw was what is going on now- "We NEED this thingamajig to keep Nashville on the forfront" while our schools aren't being addressed(just as an example). I don't have kids but I see the necessity of a proper education.All I see is a dumbing down and money goes down the hole.

Nashville is progressive in more ways than one.
