That could have turned out really bad. There have been customers in other places like this that were executed. Thank goodness this act didn't turn out like that.

These guys not only need to get jobs. They also need to learn how to read! I mean the sign said "NO GUNS"...I can't believe they didn't turn around at the door and leave.!

Aw, give 'em a break. Waffle House signs are usually hard to see, posted on building, not door. I'm sure they would have obeyed it if they'd seen it.

Someone should call there HQ and ask how this happened since they are posted.

I'd like to know this as well, since we all know that a discreet sign will stop all gun crime.

Recently your restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee was robbed by criminal with a gun. Prior to this you had posted a sign preventing firearms from entering your restaurant.

Chattanooga Waffle House robbed at gunpoint | timesfreepress.com

Since your restaurant had a sign preventing firearms from entering your restaurant how is it possible a criminal entered and robbed the store using a gun?

I know you think preventing those who can legally posses firearms from entering helps prevent crime but in fact it does the opposite. The "gunbuster" sign serves as a beacon for criminals because they know they will not be met with resistance if they are armed.

And just so you know those who do have handgun carry permits have been trained extensively. They have passed background checks. And the guns those HCP holders carry are no more dangerous than the cell phone in your pocket.

I sent this, wonder what the response will be?

I hate Waffle House and will not give them one penny of my money.

July 1999. Me and two fellow reservist were heading to FT. Bragg for Jumpmaster school at JFKSWC. One guy lived in Dickson and we were taking my car, so we decided to meet at Waffle house at 1-440 and White Bridge Rd just down the street from the reserve center. Me and one guy walked into Waffle house to get a bite to eat while waiting on the other guys wife to drop him off.

We went in and sat down and noone would wait on us. We sat there for about 15 minutes and not one person would even speak. We finally said screw it and went back to the car to wait on the other guy to show up.

Next thing I know we are surrounded by seven Metro Police cars. The manager of the Waffle house thought we were gang members because I have a shaved head and the guy with me was wearing a bandanna. After a nice long conversation with the police, showing orders, military ID, answering questions and even opening my trunk to show our bags, the manager came out to tell us he was sorry and all that.

We did not eat there and I will never eat at a Waffle House because of the treatment we received that night. Now that I know that they are posted, thats just more reason for me to never step foot in their establishment.

I should make light of the fact that nearly every Police officer I have asked in my life including myself will not eat at a Waffle House because of the unwelcome feeling. I drive by that Waffle House on my way to and from work. That may actually be the last WH I have eaten at but it's been a few years.

I'm not 100% sure but it is to my understanding that a gunbusters sign and the statute does also pertain to Law Enforcement unless it says excluding LE. The catch is we can't be charged. Basically they are telling us we are not welcome while carrying.

Those of you who have had problems, did you contact corporate?

If not I urge you to do so. You would be surprized how many store or restaurant policies or regional or even local. If nothing else just ot let corporate knowthey are loosing out on an important source of revenue during these hard times.

On more than one occassion I have contacted corporate and they are always receptive to what I have said. Even if they don't change their policy, at least not initially, they are aware of how their customers feel. They are not going to make any changes if they think nothing is wrong.

I contacted Waffle House through their website the day of the HWY 58 robbery. Attached is their response.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion. It was well stated and I share many of the values which you espouse. It is unfortunate that criminal behavior causes others to take steps which some see as a loss of freedoms. However it is not within my scope of duties to make policy decisions of this nature, so I will forward this request to Waffle House Inc of whom we are a franchised business, and must abide by their policies and directives. Please accept my gratitude for your past patronage and I hope to serve you in the future.

No the signs do not mean anything to us. The only place we can't carry is at the courthouse when on personsal business and on school property unless we first notify the principle or other staff if not available that we are on the premises and armed. The second has some other stipulations that go along with including department SOP seeing that most schools have county officers working then anyway.

I've never had a problem at my local Waffle House - I'm always armed, sometimes openly but mostly not. No one has ever said a negative word to me about my weapon. That said, I don't think anyone will mistake me for a gang member! ;)

I don't care too much for their food, but I LOVE their coffee. I simply don't go in b/c of their signs. I go to Huddle House... their coffee is almost as good.

Staff isn't skanky at the Huddle House here either.
