Got a question I'm new to the AR world. I been looking at the ar 15 sport because its what I can afford now and well kinda impatient lol. My question is this how hard and expensive will it be.to put on a forward assist and a dust flap?

This was discussed on a couple of threads right before Christmas. If you look at JoeBobOutfitters.com you'll find a Rock River Arms middie for about the same price if you use the TGO discount code. The RRA has some pretty good upgrades. I'm no AR expert, but you'll need a new upper receiver to add those goodies you mentioned. I receive my RRA tomorrow!!!

The only way that you could do this is to change out the upper receiver. The places to connect the dust cover and insert the forward assist are forged in the receiver when it is made. This receiver does not have those options.

Can't be done. That being said, you don't really need either unless your in battle and then you still won't use the forward assist.

I'd look around if you are impatient and stuck on the forward assist and dust cover.

I see DPMS complete carbine ARs for $749 here on the east side.

PS Joebobs is sold out of the RRA Midlength, but you can make a backorder, but that doesn't lend to you being impatient.

They're nice to have I suppose but they really serve no useful purpose for 99% of AR owners. If you're going to use and abuse it with some hardcore training or something then it would be something I'd consider having.

Pretty much. The dust cover just helps keep grit out prior to firing, and the forward assist is for when it's so dirty the bolt won't close all the way. In a pinch you can force it closed. At this point if its that dirty its probably not gonna cycle anymore anyhow.

So, no they are not a necessity. And the S&W sport is a good rifle, cones with sights already, ready to shoot.
