Lexington man charged with making a fake $1 million bill and trying to spend it | JournalNow.com

Apparently a man went into Walmart to purchase a few items and tried to pay the cashier using a $1,000,000 bill on a total of $476. He is now facing two felony counts.

For arguments sake let's assume the guy is the most gullible person on the planet and he didn't realize the bill was fake. Does he actually expect to receive $999,534 in change? I have run across some really dumb people in my life, but this absolutely tops them all.

Hopefully he has a felony on his record or will at least be convicted of one, because if you are that dumb, no have absolutely no business voting.

Now give him the benefit of doubt, he was probably willing to take a shoppers card, gift certificate, or in store credit for part of it...:)

Oddly enough, my wife and I were both given million dollar bills yesterday while walking around at the K-ville Zoo. The young couple who gave them to us said they could "Solve all your worries." (If you read the fine print on the back of the bill you'll find that it's actually a religious tract.)

Guess the guy in Lexington didn't read the fine print.

Seems like there's a lesson there somewhere, but I don't even wanna' touch it...:D

See, the reporting on this story sucks. They make this sound like a serious case; it can’t be. And what’s up with the cops?

Either the guy did it as a joke, and the store and the Officers overreacted, or the guy has serious mental problems. The reporter should have indicated which it is.

Did he print out one of these?

One Million Dollar Bill and Corporate Gifts

I agree with DaveTN on this one, this seems like it was a joke that just sent too far. I know several people that would present that bill and watch for the cashiers reaction. I can't think of anyone that would try to pass it as a legitimate bill.

hell i can't get most stores to break a $50

Yes, I thought there was a very old law that said you MUST take cash. As it is stated on our bills "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private". How can some stores just reject $50 and $100 bills legally?

I was out with a buddy of mine, we'd been hunting earlier that day. We stopped for gas and the sign said no bills larger than $20 taken. He went inside to talk with the manager. Now, we were in an old suburban with two tanks. All he has is a hundred, he tells the manager he is going to buy $80 worth a gas and a pack of smokes. The manager still refused saying we can't take bills over $20.

Some people are so stupid, there are no words in our language to describe them fittingly.

There must be something wrong with me, but I tend to agree with Dave as well. However, not for the same reasoning. I believe there has to be some kind of diminished mental capacity. My guess would be he was on drugs.

If this guy is truly as stupid as he appears at first glance; we should hope he shows up on the Darwin Awards soon so his DNA is eliminated from the gene pool. B)

It's for security. If people know there are hundreds sitting in a register, the chances for robbery go way up.

It might not sound that stupid to the young clerk when a gun is pointed at her head... :D

Fuller was being held Friday night in the Davidson County Jail with bond set at $17,500. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

See, this is why I could never be a judge. I would have set his bond at 1 million dollars just to F with him B)

I would have set it at $1,000,017,500.00 and then accepted a million dollar bill as partial payment just to F with everyone else. :D

Can someone explain to me what's actually different about having $80 more dollars in your register paid for with a $100 bill vs having an additional $80 from a sale paid for with four $20s? Is a robber only going to rob the place if it has $1,000 in $100 dollar bills and not if the station has the same $1,000 in $20s???

Well, in a nutshell, you can make change with 20's that you can't make with a 100. Plus with seemingly rampant counterfeiting going on these days and counterfeiters getting smarter and smarter, if someone takes 4 20's on an $80.00 gas purchase, only one is likely to be counterfeit so they're only out $20.00. Whereas if someone takes a 100 on an $80.00 gas purchase and it's a bad bill they're out 100 bucks (actually they're out 200 - $100.00 on the counterfeit bill, $80.00 on the gas and $20 on the change). Much as it's an inconvenience to the rest of us, it kinda' seems like a good business practice to me.

It's the presumptively of it. Let's say there are two gas stations right next to one another. Station A does not accept any bills larger then a $20. Station B is well known for accepting large bills.

Which station is a thug going to presume has more cash and rob?

There are other reasons, too. In addition to what Timestepper said, there is also the problem with making cash drops in the safe.

A cashier has to make multiple small drops on their shift in order to maintain the store's maximum cash on hand policy... while keeping enough cash to make change with. If they have to drop large bills, they will run out of change. I know this reason might sound wonky when typed out like this, but it's just the way it works.

Robbers aren't going to know or care what size bills are in the register. The only reason businesses don't like large bills IS because of the problem of making change (especially at night when you can't just run down to the back to get change), :)

That said, not taking a hundred dollar bill on an $80 dollar sale is pretty damn stupid IMAHO.

To make range for a hundy you've got to have 99 (assuming a spent dollar) in the register. Which makes you a more attractive target one supposes. To make change for a twenty you need 19 bucks. Dominos, when I worked there, used to have this thing where it said "our drivers carry less than 20 dollars" which was true at the beginning of the night (we carried 13.50) but, by the end of the night was untrue.

There is a reason behind the madness but if you're buying 80 dollars worth of stuff the reason is kind of out the window.
