Augusta by Dave Loggins:

Well, it's springtime in the valley on Magnolia Lane

It's the Augusta National and the master of the game

Who'll wear that green coat on Sunday afternoon?

Who'll walk the 18th fairway singing this tune?

Augusta, your dogwoods and pines

They play on my mind like a song

Augusta, it's you that I love

And it's you that I'll miss when I'm gone.

It's Watson, Byron Nelson, Demaret, Player and Snead

It's Amen Corner and it's Hogan's perfect swing

It's Sarazen's double eagle at the 15 in '35

And the spirit of Clifford Roberts that keeps it alive

Augusta, your dogwoods and pines

They play on my mind like a song

Augusta, it's you that I love

And it's you that I miss when I'm gone.

It's the legions of Arnie's Army and the Golden Bear's throngs

And the wooden-shafted legend of Bobby Jones.

Dave Loggins is a local boy out of Mountain City, TN. He's a cousin of Kenny (from Bristol).

But the point of this post is about the guy who designed the Master course at Augusta, Georgia - Bobby Jones.

Reason I mention this is that my mother worked for Bobby Jones, the most famous golf amateur in history.

Mr. Jones, as my mother always referred to him, was a title lawyer in Atlanta, as well as a famous golfer. She went to work for the firm at age 16. They didn't know she was that young or they would not have hired her.

She is in a nursing home these days, but she always claimed that this printing block was of Mr. Jones.

Bobby Jones won the old Knoxville Open at the golf course I worked at here in Knoxville. They had stuff about him in the pro shop and on walls in the hallways. I think he was 14 at the time.

It was a different game back then. I am guessing he would be good in modern day, but I do wonder how he would stack up against guys like Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods.

I got to go there back in 97 or 98, it is a special place.

I wonder how they would have done with wooden woods. Not too well, in comparison I suspect.

The better question is what Bobby Jones would have done with modern clubs.

BTW, it is an exceptional film in Dolby 5.1.

Just one time before I croak I want to walk Augusta National barefoot.:D

I want to walk Augusta National barefoot.

I would not recommend walking any golf course barefoot. There are a lot of chemicals applied to those places and they will enter you body through contact with bare skin.

I found a good spot close to concessions to sit and drank a bunch of beer.

You can only walk around that place so many times without getting very thirsty.

I think Bobby Jones would fare real well today. The equipment is way better now.

kind of a cool story with Immelman winning on the 40th anniversary of his idol Gary Player winning it for the last time.

Kind of crummy weather here today so I ended up watching the entire round of the last pairing today. If somebody had shot lights out and gone low today Immelman might not have won. But he did what needed to be done, good for him.

Not a very dramatic finish though.

Tiger Woods couldn't make a putt today. Give credit to Trevor. He did what he had to do to win. Tough conditions. There were very few who shot par or better today.

Kind of funny about Player. The announcers said on TV that Player was not in Augusta as he was headed wherever on business. So had player conceded making the cut before hand? I guess the older guys know when they do not have the game anymore. And this was Players last regular tourney appearence. I think from now on he is relugated to the Champions Dinner and playing nine on Thursday in the lead group.

If Tiger just would have par'd the 3 holes he bogied...it would have been a playoff. Playoff's are cool.

I dunno Mars, I know the US Open does an 18 hole playoff. I thought the Masters was just some sudden death scenario.

May be Mike. I was just going by memory, and I don't really care, so I don't think I'll research it. Doesn't matter.

I have seen sudden deaths, don't know if the 18 hold playoff is for certain event, and I agree with Mars, doesn't matter. :koolaid:
