holster question

I am looking for a new way to carry my edc. I usually carry my xd9 4" with the blackhawk IWB thin nylon holster and now I want to try carrying the M&P 40c OWB. I have been looking at the Don Hume JIT Slide Holster and DeSantis Speed Scabbard. I am wanting a high and tight fit, has anyone used these or have any other ideas. Thanks in advance..

There are many quality holster manufacturers that would fit your bill, such as; Milt Sparks, Alessi and High Noon. Be prepared to pay for quality and wait 3-6 months for delivery, and worth the wait IMO.

This week makes a year since I quit smoking and I have acquired an extra 25 pounds, so I either have to buy all new pants or wear my edc owb. :-) With the way I wear my shirts even in the summer I can keep it hidden as long as I can keep the muzzle high enough. Has anyone tried the jit slide holsters? they look like they will ride the highest I have seen.

I have seen some very good reviews of these on other forums, I havent tried them or the crossbreed, mainly because I work outside in the summer and I sweat alot so I dont think the leather real estate would work for me iwb.

I use a standard Galco OWB. It works really well, and must gun stores carry them.

I have used customary leather too. I had a DM Bullard Bodygaurd, that I like a lot!! I sold the gun and holster went with it. I'm seriously considering buying another for my current EDC.

I purchased a owb holster with thumb break from http://www.leathergunsetc.com about a month ago. They are in Oklahoma and I had the holster within 4 days. The holster is a high ride/thumb break. I love it and it's quality. I too am heavy and it sits so tight I can conceal carry my Bond Arms. It's comfortable to wear. The owner's name is Bill Weaver and his phone number is on the website. Hey guys...i have a jit...rides hi...but not to tight..wants to "roll" a little it seems unless i keep my belt so tight its uncomfortable...it sux to because i really want to use this holster for summer but i just don't see it happening. have fun,be safe

It sounds like a pancake style holster would probably be your best bet. There are many great options out there. If you go with a custom maker there is usually a pretty good lead time as stated above but well worth the wait.

I use a $50 Galco pancake holster and feed the belt through backwards and it really rides tight.

I like that, doesn't look like it will help protect from sweat but I clean frequently in the heated months.

do you know what model that is, the ones I am seeing online dont have the higher back like yours does. And is that a g30 or27? the only one I see that compares to yours is the Galco Concealable Belt Holster and it doesnt look like it has the high back. I plan on going to town tomorrow to see if Guns & Ammo has one. Thanks for the help.

One thing that often gets overlooked is making sure that the holster has a reinforced throat so that it remains open when the gun is removed. A lot of pancake holsters are molded nicely and remain open when new but wear out relatively quickly.

Here's an article from ITS Tactical that shows one of the potential issues with a non-reinforced holster design.

No I dont know what model Galco it is. Actually it had a thumbstrap and I cut it off but left the back and cut it even with the slide. I thought I modeled it simiar to the ones without the strap and they call it an open top. By running the belt through backwards it keeps it snug and conceals about as well as a IWB.

I carry an Xd40 4" service model in a Blackhawk SERPa class 2 retention holster that I love well worth $45 I think.

ya the serpa is pretty much not an option for what I need. I have carried the xd service model for about 3 or 4 years and with the work I will be doing this summer I figure I will need a bit more deep concealment. Patton I have seen a few used ones I thought I could trim down at a good price. Thanks

I tend to like Don Hume OWB holsters. I've had the kydex and just don't like the plastic feel.
