Well guys and gals 2012 has finally arrived, I don't know how many of you belive if the world will end or just people rioting to record breaking natural disasters. I don't know if anything will happen, however I look at it like I do my hcp and glock 23.... I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. So in this case what is your 2012 emergency preparedness plan, and what will you be stocking up on this year?? I'm going to buy plenty ammo my smith and Wesson m&p ar-15 :). Batteries mainly 3volt, mre's few extra sure fire bulbs for my lights, extensive first aid kits and plenty more. Anyways how about you are you getting ready?

If it's the end of the world there's not much need to stockpile. :)

and Twinkies. I plan on stock piling twinkies.

Either way, if 2013 comes and we are ok what is the worst that can happen by preparing? I would much rather have been over prepared than under prepared and at the complete mercy of the great unknown.

Just buying lots of ammo. So when nothing happens I will have plenty for 2013.

I don't believe the world will come to an end, however I do believe bad things are highly possible, I live in Memphis so any thing from rioting like the after math of Katrina could happen to the big earthquake could hit.....then the rioting. Either way I'm going to do my best to be ready and make sure my family is too. Even if nothing happens you will always be prepared for the worst. In my book that's a good idea.

Very True! True "end of the world" stuff is not something you prepare for (except based on your religions views); all you can do when things are that bad is to accept the end with dignity. :tinfoil:

I plan for emergencies...natural or man-made; short to mediem term in length. That said, I"m interesting in "living"; not just surviving.

Not as ready as I'd like to be, but bring it on. No rambos here, just a fella who's sick of the current goings on and ready for something else. For better or worse.

I have 3 days of rations and 100 rounds of pistol ammo in my BOB along with a few other necessities if I need to go mobile.

If the world goes to crap I'm pulling off doors and boarding up my brick house. I gotta go buy some nails lol besides that we got enough canned food an excellent pistol and my 2 scatter guns. I definitely need extra ammo though!

when Obama gets re-elected we will all be hoping for the end of the world.

As for Mayan prophecies I don't much know. If it is the end of the world all the prepping you want will be meaningless. I ain't seen anyone predicting a Memphis earthquake.

I wanna take a nice vacation, don't want to waste the last year just working.

Well, I'm not a doom and gloomer, my cup is half full. But like the OP has stated, 2011 was the worst year ever for natural / man made disasters. Makes me wish I didn't live a stones throw away from the New Madrid fault line. Anyway, I have a gut feeling 2012 will be the year the straw broke the camels back. My crystal ball, Tara cards and chicken bones have a bad, bad feeling. Myself, my shadow and my reflection predict a worldwide economic collapse. Humpty Dumpty is going to fall off the wall all over again, and all the Kings horses... well you get the idea.

Seriously though, everyone should have adequate preparations to survive on their own for at least 3-6 months, and have an extended plan in place just in case. No one can totally prepare for everything but, any preparations are better than nothing. Pity the poor fool who thinks tomorrow will be the same as yesterday. You can quote history on that one.

Peace and Happy New Year everyone!

Well I made and hand operated pump for my well. At least if the power goes out there is not collecting of rain water. Was pretty easy and for under $100 I will be pulling water from 100'. I also have rice and beans on hand as emergency supplies. Plenty of game in the area as well until others try to hunt it. Then I will have even more supplies and didn't even have to leave.

Well by December 21st I would love to have a PSG but may have to settle for a FN FAL. In 2013 It will be a Remington Sendero for the Girl Friend.

If the ancient Mayans could not see their own demise I doubt they can see mine....

Still, my wife and I are just getting into prepping and it is so overwhelming. I will not have the money to do an AR this year, so our SHTF main gun will be the Mosin Nagant. I need to get a couple of SPAM cans for it.

The Beretta 92fs covers the pistol pretty well, but I still need something smaller for carry. I also need to get my permit yet. We are starting the food thing a little at a time with grocery store trips, and are just beginning to think outside the box about things like making jerky.

It's tough getting all this going with limited funding. I am going to Ebay off my smart phone to help raise money, but most of it will have to wait until my tax return.

I bought a bunch of rice form Walmart. It is like $6 for 20 pound bags and for enough for two people for 6 months is probably less than $75. I have had one bucket of rice in Co2 for over a year to test viability. I will be cracking it open in the next few weeks. The bags have survived a year without any issues either. For protein I have 10-15 pounds of beans as well as plan on taking game locally. The first sign of SHTF and I am dropping the deer that hang out in my front yard and begin making jerky.

People need to realize that they need more than 3 months of food. Imgaine if today the world ended as we know it, I mean really ended. We cannot plant food crops until spring and they will not be ready until late summer which is 8 months away. And even if we plan on foraging for food nothing will be edible for at least 4 more months. And foraging alone isn't going to provide enough for a family. And 3 months of food is only going to extend the inevitable starvation. Food will be taken almost immediately by looters and thugs.

Security is also another big concern because LE will not be concerned with anything but their own families, which is how it should be. So roaming bands of thugs are going to emerge almost over night. And it is these thugs that are going to prey upon those people/families who leave their current location for a better one. Also, I wonder where those planning to bug out are planning to go where everyone else isn't aleady going? This mass exodus is only going to make for easy pickings for the thugs. Every member of your group should be armed with some type of firearm. It is the one equalizer that prevents people from becoming victims or at least levels the playing field.

I live in a relatively remote area on a dead end road. It will not be hard to convince the neighbors to block the road to prevent ingress. Then we will do what we need to to remain safe. It is a lot safer to guard a single point of entry.

I have had a lot of survival training as well as lived in some of the most austere conditions. I have also watched how those who live in austere conditions live their day to day lives without electricity or running water. I learned a lot. I had a chance to run a mini ramp up this spring when our power was out for 4 days. Hardly a survival situation but it showed me water was my biggest weakness, hence the hand pump for my well. Lack of water is the biggest killer in the short term. And believe it or not but potable water will become a commoditiy. I also have several barrels for the collection of rainwater as well as a homemade sand filter for when I donn't have access to potable water. It is capable of filtering 8 ounces of water a minute and once it builds up its mud layer the water will no longer need to be boiled, just filter and drink. It cost me less than $20.

I also keep gasoline on hand. Not for running cars but for running a small multifuel stove. For those times when you can't or do not want to cook over a fire this is a great alternative. It will burn anything that is flammable so the alcohol I have under the sink will also work.

Future plans include a still for making alcohol. Not for running cars but for fuel, sterilization as well as drinking alcohol which will also become a highly sought after commodity. Some sort of wood heat. Everyone has a vice and it is those vices that are going to become valuable to others.

The biggest thing to survival is never give up hope and always think. Think about how to improve things like your living conditions and your security. Have a backup for everything you need to survive. Also, I believe those people who are tinkerers are going to make it longer than anyone else because they tend to see things differently than the rest of us. They can use normal everyday objects is ways we never envisioned to help improve their lives.

If one is already stocked up on food and ammo, does that make him an enemy combatant? If so, then I have neither. :D

I am no more or less prepared for 2012 than I am for any other year. I'm not much on Mayan prophesies either. "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." -- Matt 24:36
