Great Gun Store Experience

I am a Glock owner that was looking for a 1911 pistol. Live in middle Tenn. and went to several local gun stores with no success. Visiting east Tenn. for Christmas went to Benton Shooters Supply, looked at several different models and could not decide between Colt and Kimber. Salesman spent a long time with me allowing me to handle and ask questions. Did not buy the first day. Came back home to middle Tenn. and decided I should have bought the Colt .45 Gold Cup Trophy stainless. A couple days passed and I call the store and asked if pistol was still in case for sale. Explain to Tim that I was there a few days earlier, and live three hours away. Tim did not know me from adam, but pulled the pistol off the shelf and held it for me to drive the three hours to purchase. This was my first purchase from Bentons Shooters Supply, but will not be my last. This store and service is worth the drive!

glad it worked out for you. So many guys give up if you don't have cash in hand. I understand the frustration of slide rackers (tire kickers) but some people just need some time. Where is this shop located? It would be hard for me to buy a handgun that didn't come from tri cities gun depot but i would love to stop in and look around......

I thought I'd search to see if there was a thread on BSS before I made one. I hope it's ok to pop in here and ask this. My experience with Benton Shooters has been mixed. Friendly folks, but constantly issues with the firearms I've bought there. To be fair, it's only been three, but it doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth.

I've bought two floor guns and one I had specially ordered. My first gun purchase, a Beretta Xtrema 2 and after that a Walther P22 I purchased were both missing items. My Ruger 10/22 I had them order for me is the only gun I've not had an issue with. They also seems to be much higher priced for the longer drive out there.

I do love the selection and layout but it hardly seems worth the annoyance and hassle. I talked to someone about this, they said yes it's higher, but it's all about being able to tell people you "bought it from Benton Shooters".

Am I the only one to have issues with my purchases there? I know they're few, but to me that shows a trend.

I personally have just found out about Volunteer Ordinance Works maybe about a month and a half ago. Nowhere near the selection but the staff I've met is very friendly and helpful, prices seem respectable (to me) and it's a heck of a lot closer for me. I've only made two firearm purchases so far but I've not had the first issue with those purchases.

My only problem is forgetting that they attend gun shows and they wipe the shop out of product :)

BSS has always taken good care of me. If there is something I am looking for they are the first place I call. I have never had a problem with anything I got from them.
