Stolen Gun Question

I have/had a 1911 Colt Combat Commander in stainless that I believe was stolen out of my house in Madison approximately 8-9 years ago. At the time, I thought the gun was in a gun cleaning box that I put into a storage unit when I moved out of the house 8 years ago. The storage unit was one of those commercial kind and it was locked with me having the only key. Well last week, I finally got the storage emptied, and went through EVERY box. No gun. I have no idea who took it and I dont recall seeing any signs of a break in. My son and his then girlfriend were staying with me, and they broke up before she left...I don't know for sure who was in the house. I want to report it stolen, but not sure if that is possible at this late stage. Can anyone advise? I have pictures of it and the serial number. I got the gun when I was in the USAF many years ago form a good friend who's no longer around, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read, and advise.

(p.s. I KNOW I was/am stupid about this, no need to tell me what I already know, lol)

My :)

I would think if it was in storage you can not know exactly when it happened, I would make the report as sMyuch. CYOA give the info ect then if it shows up (pawn crime ect) you are covered.

I would call the local PD and report it. If anything it will get the serial number into the system and if it shows up you could get your gun back.

I am sure you have meticulus records that show the serial number and purchase info.

If anything it is a CYA thing.

Do what the Chief said. You have the serial number so you are light years ahead of most people who have a gun lost or stolen. It will probably show up sooner or later.

With it being a very delayed report from time of incident to report Metro will probably have you call their teleserv reporting number. Just give the civilian reporter all the information you have and the serial numbers so it can be entered as stolen. The only way you will get it back is if it's entered stolen so it can eventually be returned to you if it's ever ran by serial number.
