Although this currently is not a gun type issue, I think it may well lead to a civil war in the United States. Any one out there as concerned as I am about the federal Governments refusal to protect the borders, and the immigration laws of the united states.:D

So we don't get off on a tangent, I personally, dint have a problem with anyone who comes here as long as they do it by our laws, and want to assimilate themselves into our society.

This has been a tough issue for me to wrestle with, as I see major problems in current policy, and no real desire for either political party to do anything real about the problem. (Posturing for votes does not count!)

I guess I am less concerned than you jack. I don't see civil war implications from illegal immigration alone (although that as part of a volatile mix of issues could lead to some nastiness).

In the past, the US has struggled with immigration issues at various times and from various places, both legal and illegal. In the end, we always seem to come out stronger for it. Winning WW II would have been much harder without the millions of immigrants who came here in the early 20th century. The west would have been "won" alot slower without immigrants to the west coast from Asia, etc...

The optimist in me sees our ability as a nation to become stronger through dealing with this issue, the pessimist sees the potential for great danger economically, socially, and in terms of civil unrest.

I guess I just have not decided whether the pessimist or optimist is right yet.

In the meantime, while I figure out my own position, I would at least like to see the laws enforced and border security be better than the sick joke it is now. Also, would it not be nice if the nations these people come from got their acts together so it would not be so desirable to leave them and come here? Fact is, if I was in their shoes, I'd want to head to the US as well.

Interested to see what others have to say, as I'm still working out my position.

Lived in Texas for 12 years, ventured into Mexico quite a bit. I agree that I don't blame the people down there for wanting to come here. I just think they need to do it, like everyone else who has come here. As far as civil war,

well there are alot of folks out there in texas NM and AZ that are fed up with what they are dealing with on a day to day basis.

This issue leaves America in such grave danger from so many different ways that I hardly know where to start. I remember the words of former President Ronald Reagan when he said words to this effect (I wish I could remember or find the exact words) "A nation which cannot/will not control it's borders will cease to be an independent nation." Others countries understand the importance of this. Just try to sneak into Israel and see what happens.

As things are now, any scoff law who wants to do so may just walk, drive, sneak into the country whenever they get ready by any number of routes. Admittedly some are just poor people wishing to better them selves and feed their families a good meal for a change. While I can have pity on them, we can't afford to let the poor of the entire world just walk in and take over lest we be just as poor as them and fast. I wish everyone had the opportunity, etc that we have here but I can't help it cause they don't. They need to get at the end of the line, jump through the hoops, obey the laws and become a citizen LAWFULLY. Once they do that, and assimilate into our country, become an American and both pledge & live in full faith and alliegence to this country, that's fine with me.

Trouble is any drug smuggler, human smuggler, camel jockey with all kinds of bombs, Taliban, poor person with GOD know what all wrong with them physically ( As an RN in the intensive care unit, I've participated in CPR on just such an illegal who had TB, AIDS, etc. We all had to have blood drawn every so many months, TB tests again and Again and AGAIN. I still don't truly know if I had a false negative on the aids test or of the guy was in the "window period" where it won't show positive YET.) yes, ANYBODY no matter what their condition, status, or danger to this country who wants to can just walk right in; and they do it daily. This results in lost jobs for our own citizens, hospitals and ER's closing, hopeless overcrowding of schools. etc. We have illegals drawing every kind of welfare check, hospital care for free when our own people can't get the care they so badly need LIKE MY OWN SON. Meixican and Central American gangs are up here spreading like a horde of locust endangering our country, I could go on and On and ON.

The two border patrol agents who were railroaded into the federal pen is a clear signal to all the border patrol guys that if they want to keep their jobs and stay out of jail themselves, they had better NOT apprehend ANYONE trying to smuggle in people, drugs, or both. Were I a border patrol member, to keep my job and stay out of the pen, you'd better bet I would be like Sergent Shultz on the old Hogan's Heroes TV series when he's say "I know NOTHING. I SEE nothing!" With the very employees who are charged with guarding the border so in fear by the administration's harassment of them for merely doing their jobs, the public is NOT well served.

The fence that was supposed to be built along the border is incomplete and porous as a sponge. The two seperate branches of the same political party, both the DemocRATS and RepubliCONS are working hard to see that the border is NOT closed with the President trying to outdo both of them. Only Rep Tom Tancredo, Rep Dr. Ron Paul MD, and a VERY few others are speaking out against the border being open and they stand in grave danger of being "punished" by the all powerful cabal of financiers who are the shadow/unseen government of the USSA and indeed much of the world. Were the airtight fence we so badly need in place and thoroughly manned, it would go a long way toward increasing our safety.

People I personally know have left and continue to leave the southwest for safety reasons to get their families out of harms way in south Kalifornia, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas. Some have sold their places at far less than real value as the property values are going down Down DOWN where the invaders are trampling in daily doing untold dammage to fences, killing livestock, stealing everything that isn't nailed down. I know nurses who have seen the emergency departments where they worked closed after being bankrupted by hordes of illegals. I know teachers who have seen the schools where they taught overcome with illegals with multiple horendous problems as a result.

I could go on oh so long, but have taken too much time/space already. Unless this problem is solved, our borders controlled once again, our once great soverign Republic will continue to sink into the muck and mire of collectivism, the welfare state, & peace/safety will be gone; destroyed by the famous Hispanic gang MS 13 those mudering wolve who can and will outrun us and outgun us. Don't forget those two border patrol agents who were railroaded into jail. They are STILL there, STILL in danger from Mexican illegals in that same jail as they serve as an object lesson to any other border patrol agent who gets the idea that it's safe to do the job of defending this country for which they were hired.

I hope you good folks here and others like us in countless groups across this country will unite our voices toward the District of Corruption toward the administration in one strong united fashion so much that the political hacks there FINALLY get the message that we want our country made safe from invaders again. In the mean time, my hat is off to all the good folks who volunteer their time and resources to help watch the border as free volunteers to report them to the border patrol. May their numbers be multiplied.

Folks this country and the freedoms we have left are in for a REAL ROUGH RIDE in time to come, probably not too far away. Prepare while you can. I'm one of the old guys in poor health so don't know how much help I;ll be able to give at that time when the "balloon goes up/show starts" but God help those of you who will do the fightinging then, ESPECIALLY all our kids.

Respectfully With All Good Wishes, RNMEDIC

Great post RN! My sentiments exactly...

The immigration issue needs to be dealt with, seriously. It will only escalate if the borders are not closed, and the criminals who came here are not deported.

While the Statue of Liberty reads "Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free." I don't think that the sentiment was that they would come here and live off of the government tit and not assimilate into the culture. Keeping your original heritage is great. I fully respect the right of the individual in their home, but to expect me to adopt your language just to be able to speak to you out in public, to expect the government to print everything in about 100 different languages is rediculous.

Will there be a time when the borders are completely controlled? I hope so, but I doubt it will be in my lifetime because to many political people don't want to see it happen. It ruins the voting base.

Anybody catch the story on CNN last night about the Texas Deputy sheriff who was sentenced to one year in prision for shooting at a vanload of mexicans. Who after he stopped them attempted to run him over and then drove off. Let's see 2 border patrol gaurds in prision for stopping a drug dealer, now a deputy sheriff. The US attorneys will not I repeat not try drug smugglers if they are carrying less than 500 lbs of drugs.

Border secruity, Homeland secruity, this is a F**king joke.

I remember hearing the story several weeks ago. Guess they finally decided what to do with him. He was off to the side of the car. To say they tried to run over him is stretching it a bit.

The sheriff was dancing all around the issue when I saw him. Not that I disagree that LE should be able to shoot under circumstances where BGs are trying to get away. But SCOTUS has been pretty plain that you can't do that.

RNMedic - That's a well written, 100% correct post.

I'm about out of ideas (save the one we don't want to use) on how to get the attention of the government. I think there is a move to get rid of the middle class to further speed the "internationalization" of our country.

They have the schools, they are working on the churches and the middle class. Shouldn't take 'em too much longer.

In my opinion, RNMEDIC said it pretty plainly!

as for the "option we don't want to use". ...until it becomes an option that the politicians fear, we won't have any control in our government.Nobody likes that sort of thing. Its ugly, messy and it gets you talked about by your neighbors. But the problem with this particular government is that they know we don't want to use that solution...and so long as they know that we will continue to be over run by political hacks and back alley deals like the one the president and kennedy and his ilk are trying to ram down our throats.

Is it just my political ignorance or does this immigration reform bill strike anyone else as being unconstitutional in both its inception and the way its been introduced into the congress?

someone enlighten me here.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt 1907
