Been doing it for two or three months now pretty much nationwide. Pretty good dope that some will start doing handguns again in 2012 too.

Yeah Walmart's new initiative is to get back into gun sales. They've got Sig556's, 223's, and 22LR's. Bushmaster's 556 I believe and also a Judge long gun. Also, according to Walmart employees, they will be selling handguns shortly after the first of the year. I would freaking LOVE it if Walmart started doing FFL transfers at $15 a pop!

I would only let them do a transfer on a gun I didn't care too much about. No way would I put in faith in a walmart employee to pick up the gun to check the serial number and not risk dropping it.

One of his great sayins was: "....Whats good for General Bullmose is good for the USA!!....". The Walmart is the "Bullmose Motors" of the USA. They are comming down on the side of us Second Amendment customers and armin everybody at reasonable prices. I say that's a good thing. l

Lolz. I'd definitely want to be there when the guns were delivered just to be sure they were handling it properly and at least wearing gloves (no one wants your ugly fingerprints on their new gun).

+1 for this. Bring back the notion that a gun in the house is a good thing. No more of the "Guns kill unborn children" and other anti gun crap (I realize that's not it but I said it for effect). I would love to go grocery shopping and then stop by and check out a Sig Pro Sp2022 for $349 at Walmart!. The only downside I can see to this is that Walmart will have a lot of the cheaper guns (they've got to sell after all) and their staff, unless they decide to hire in guys that actually know their stuff, will definitely have to spend some time in training to learn their firearms.

They just opened an Academy sports here recently and since the day it opened I havent been able to get close enough to the gun counter to see what they have, they are selling guns like crazy. But no doubt its a good thing if WalMart steps up, it will definitely put a dent in big stores like Gander Mountain that sell guns for MSRP+.

Competition is always good, just be careful of Walmart stuff and do your homework. Don't know if they will keep up the practice but they used to make manufactures change a few things that would not make them compatible with aftermarket accessories. The Remington shotguns they sold are a good example. They would not take aftermarket stocks due to a change in their receivers mandated by WM. Also their WWB ammo is not the same WWB you will find in any other store. Due to their pricing policies those lots are farmed out to factories in China. This is a fairly common practice for Walmart supplies. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind. There is a reason they can sell lower than anyone else.

BTW- this is not a WM bash. As a whole I love what Walmart offers and in fact my great-grandfather opened their second store in Harrison, AR. I'm a fan. Just not of their gun department.

i think you need to take another look at gander mtn. they dont sell their guns for msrp, much less msrp+. just fyi

Gander USUALLY averages $50-100 higher on any gun compared to other stores. When they have their crazy sales, they lower the price to what everyone else sells theirs for.

I stopped by Wal-Mart earlier this week to look at their selection and believe it or not the employee that assisted me was somewhat knowledgeable on firearms and was able to answer my questions. She also let me take a look at the inventory book of what they can order. I believe she said you had to put 50% down and it would take 3-5 days to receive any order placed. The book was pretty thick on what all they could order but their actually inventory was pretty scarce. Might have had 10 or 12 guns in the case.
