like rabbits they are Boom. Hard to just have one. So I think everyone really ought to have two at minimum. I am pretty good on them now, but if I found a Walker that was priced to sell I would have a hard time not adopting it.

Mike, you'll have some company next meet I'm home for. I need to pick up powder, patches, caps, balls and a flint or two. Will have a brass-frame Navy, a couple of flintlock pistols, and a flintlock rifle to make smoke with. Can't let Dotsun get away with the crazy BP guy comment... hehehehe

They are a hoot... I couldn't find 4fg locally, so last time I tried mashing a bit of pyrodex as fine as I could (yeah, okay, not the brightest idea). It worked, but not well or consistently. I'll check out that shop in greeneville, see if I can get the real mccoy.

This new rifle I am looking at presents a new challenge to me - casting my own bullets. Still have some research to do, but it will be in the neighborhood of 510 grains, 45 caliber.

1873 Single Action Army or commonly known as an 1873 SAA. it has a case hardened frame with 5.5 inch barrel. Being a percussion revolver it is a period incorrect reproduction of a Colt SAA. The 1873 was never made originally in this configuration but as a cartridge gun. It is a .44 caliber as it shoots a .454 round ball. I don't understand why it is not considered a .45 but in Black Powder to be a .45 one uses a .457 ball. Anyway the action is really smooth on it and it is a lot of fun to load and shoot. You have to remove the cylinder to load it, and use a loading platform. Most BP revolvers can be loaded with a loading lever that is built into the gun.

My favorite is the one on the bottom left. A 1858 Remington. Also in .44 cal and has a steel frame. It is a most stout revolver and is period correct. It can be loaded either by using the loading lever under the barrel or by removing the cylinder and using a loading platform. I also picked up a R and D conversion cylinder so now I can shoot .44 cal in BP or cartridges using .45 Colt cowboy loads. And of course that makes it a cartridge revolver that has no paper trail.

you do not fill out a 4473 to buy these things. I have purchased them all mail order.
