love that movie! The F-14 Tomcat was the baddest of the bad of the US Navy Fighter Jets. It's a shame they can't keep one of them flying for airshows. :tough:

Always hated it. First, it's Tom Cruise.

Second, it's a remake of An Officer and a Gentleman, only after flight school. Boy has bad attitude. Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl. Boy's best friend dies. Girl comes back. Everybody cheers.

Except me.

Third, Kelly McGillis has one eye higher than the other.

Fourth, the USAF uses F-5s with Soviet markings as OpFor fighters at Top Gun and Red Flag exercises. So when "Maverick" and "Goose" had their tête-à-tête with the "MiG 28," since it was an F-5 with Soviet markings, I thought, "What the hell is a Red Flag airplane doing over the Med?" The movie was half gone before I caught on the F-5s were supposed to be MiGs.

Fifth, there are no even-numbered MiGs.

Sixth, it's Tom Cruise.

For real. If any of you guys [35 and younger] saw it when it came out and say you weren't on the edge of the seat, I have a word for you.

Liar.

It sucks now because of the massive leaps in cinema technology and story writing. There was a day when I didn't believe anyone could whoop B.A. Barakus, sadly, he wouldn't stand a chance agains Jason Bourne. Movies and TV have come a long way but back in the day, all that stuff you call crap now was cool as can be.

I always liked it. Acting sucked, but it was about the flying and the soundtrack to me.

Kenny Loggins is awesome and the F-14 was one of the sexiest fighters ever built.

It could be worse, it could be Iron Eagle.

No liar here, it sucked than as it does now. Typical Tom Cruise a-hole character.

I thought it very plausible that a 17 year old could be snuck into a flight suit, into a cockpit of a multimillion dollar fighter right under the noses of the entire AF base and be taught to fly an advanced fighter by his father. Plus had a good soundtrack.

You forgot how close a race it was between the dirt bike and the airplane.

Well, to be fair, he was pretty good with a Cessna
