Now when I bought the gun I had to feel out the backgruond paper work. So is there a form I need to feel out to transfer the gun to my son. Also can he legally owen a shoot gun at 18.

Is he a resident of the State of Tennessee? Is he otherwise prohibited from owning a gun?

If so you are good to go. No forms, no paperwork, no trip to the police department.

Gifts are OK.

No forms. Yes he can own a shotgun at 18.

He can own one now. He isn't able to buy one from a dealer until he's 18.

Yep.

An individual can give or sell a rifle or handgun to any other adult TN resident, as long as he have no reason to suspect they have any prohibitions for owning firearms. No paperwork required.

An individual can loan or give, but not sell, a rifle or handgun to a minor for lawful sporting purposes. No paperwork required.
