I was with my girlfriends side of the family. I was sitting down relaxing inside and all of I sudden I heard gunfire popping off outside and I **** bricks. I ran outside and everyone was shooting at onions in the backyard! Ha!

I just gotta say that this is something you would never be able to do in Hawaii unless you want to get arrested. (I'm originally from Hawaii)

I shot five different calibers today and let me tell you... it was awesome, although I might be deaf now. (First time I've gone shooting without hearing protection.) Best Christmas party ever!

I love Tennessee! Don't take it for granted folks!

And don't forget the reason for the season!

For as long as I can remember I could spot a gun without looking too hard. From the ones in the rack, to the ones on the seat to the ones in the pocket. I guess to a degree those of us in Tennessee have taken it for granted, but hell, it was how we were raised.

I'm from California and moved to TN about a year ago and love the gun culture here. I went in the back yard (big yard with a hill) to shoot my new Raging Judge Magnum and was wondering if it would bother the neighbors. Then I could hear that there were at least 3 groups of people close by doing the same thing, I imagine it's a Christmas tradition to go try out the new guns:-)

Yep, I was watching a cop show the other night and the lady cop called an SKS an AK-47. DOHHH.

We were out Christmas eve test firing a 410 shotgun at 9:30. LOL

I wouldn't call it redneck so much as a rite of passage. I would venture to say that countless kids in this state, and probably a whole lot of other states as well, unwrapped their first .22 rifle today. It was commonplace where I grew up to hear the sounds of rifles and handguns echoing off the ridges on Christmas day. Passing on the love of all things outdoors (and all things that go BANG!) to the next generation. I would imagine that there are quite a few nicked fingers from the first pocket knives this afternoon, as well.

I am very lucky to have been brn and raised here and on a farm for most of my life. Been all over the world and almost stayed in Africa. But have always returned home.

I had a crisis and had to come to work for a while today. My near 14 yr old is chompin' at the bit for me to get back home so he can try out his new muzzel loader. We couldn't fire it yesterday cause Santa (being ignorant of muzzel loaders) forgot primers. We'll smoke up the back yard shortly.

The last time we were shooting in the yard, a deputy came to see about us. He knew we were okay to be shooting in the county (Hamilton), but he had a complaint and had to come see. That is the first time that ever happened, we, and the neighbors are regularly out shooting. We are about to be annexed into Chattanooga with a whole bunch of new laws though. I'm hating the thought of it. At least I'll be compensated for losing more freedoms by paying more taxes. URGG!

Yep, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New years, the 4th as well as any personal days, like birthdays, are days in which guns are regularly shot.

As others have said so well, it's a pretty normal celebration in this area of the woods. It does another thing that i think is very important. It sends a message to any would-be miscreants and hooligans that you are armed and ready to shoot on a moment's notice. Especially in the more rural areas.

I remember a time when a family Easter get together turned into a meet and shoot all my cousins showed up and we had everything from a .300 wby ultra mag to a 4 shot .32 derringer. It was a blast.

I was faced with a similar situation years ago when I lived in FL. I owned 26 acres zoned agriculture that adjoined the city that wanted to annex us. I headed a petition and threatened suit and the city backed off. No way was I going to give up a country lifestyle, succumb to cityfied laws and regulations, not to mention taxes without a fight.
