Wifes tires got Slashed

I am so mad, I just need to vent.

I went out of town for a few days and I didn't tell anyone that didn't need to know that I was going to be out of town. I came back a couple days early as well.

I had a load of wood with me so I parked under the car port and for one night had my wife park on the street were I normally park my old truck.

Friday Morning( 23rd) found 2 tires on her car facing the road flat.

Long story short, found 5 slash marks in one and 1 in the other.

As far as I know we don't have any ememies and while I was at the tire shop another guy came in and had also had 2 slashed. Found out it was a few streets over from me. So it seems like it was probably just random.

The tires that got slashed were pretty new as well.

Wow, you live probably 2 minutes from me. Never had a slasher problem that I know of. Had my GPS stolen out of my car a couple years ago but I think I left the car unlocked stupidly since there were no signs of forced entry.

Hate to hear it. My guess is that it is (...sadly....) kids. Kids now days generally fall into two groups. The good ones and the bad ones. It (...in our neck of the woods, anyway...) generally reflects the parenting (...or lack thereof...) thing. We had a couple of vehicles "lettered" in our neighborhood. Done on the windows with egg yoke or a real good, high quality washable white paint mix of some kind. I think high school girls did it because the writing was flawless and all the words (...even the bad ones...) were correctly spelled. Some of our LE folks may want to chime in on this; but it looks to me like in many places its the problem of delinquent parents and kids with time on their hands.

If you haven't already checked, some car insurance carriers cover slashed tires under their comprehensive coverage.

One time my car got keyed and it was able to be claimed under home owners insurance for vandalism. Maybe this can apply to you and/or the tires?

Many houses in Oak Ridge have little or no driveway space, especially in the older sections of town.

Not far from there, other side of the Hospital off of Pennsylvania Ave. While I was at the tire shop gettinga Police report another person said he had 2 slashed on Nixion which is just off New York the same time frame. He said he also reported it.

I am going to try to turn it on on my insurance it might off set some of the cost a little under Comp.

Comprehensive covers vandalism, I always keep a $0 deductible cause it's pretty cheap coverage.

Vontar sorry to hear of your troubles. It sucks. Had a bowling ball thrown through a car window one time years back. What are you gonna do.

As for parking on the street. What kind of dumb ass comment is that? So it is Vontar's fault for legally parking his car? Are you kidding me?

If someone wants to vandalize your stuff they are gonna do it no matter where you park it. All of us are not so blessed to have safe parking in our driveway.

I live between you and the guy you met at the tire shop, glad I have off street parking.

It could have been worse, a few weeks ago I saw a car at the corner of New York and Outer up on blocks with all four wheels gone.

As for the street parking. Normally my wife parks under the car port and I leave my old truck on the street. 99 percent of the time. That day I came in with a load of firewood and I had unloaded it under the car port and she came in and parked before I moved my truck. Her car was parked on the Street for 1 night and under a good street light. The house across the road even has a motion light that cars sometimes set off.

No about the only thing that could have helped other then watching the car and or moving it would be to go back to having outside dogs like allot of us grew up with. They would bark if anyting was strange outside and people would get up and know to check things out. However, in town they would alert to often and not make you any friends with the neighbors probably.

A car alarmed probably wouldn't have helped as everyone was most likely sound asleep and they probably didn't touch the car other then the tires.

My concern is if they do it again.

As for changing up the parking there is not allot we can do. A few years back we had one hit and run in the middle of the night, those are the breaks.

I concerning finding out the range of the motion detector in a game camera and setting it up. I don't own one but I might get one. Been wanting one anyways. Might have to test it around the house.

Jeez Red, er Mike didn't mean to strike a nerve. I just never even considered living anywhere that I would have to park on the street, just didn't seem right to me, & the op mentioned the carport so I was curious. I have a hard enough time keeping people from running into my house much less a car parked on the street - yeah go ahead & say it people in Gville can't drive its true!

Another reason to report it is if the vandal gets caught you might be awarded restitution by the courts.

No matter how unlikely it is the person who commits a crime might be caught it still needs to be reported. Not only for you but for the community you live in. Reporting crimes shows trends and can help head off a crime wave. It also helps your local LE agency because they might qualify for federal funds in order to combat the new threat. There are literally dozens of grants available as long as the local agency can apply and articulate a need for the funds.

One more add.

While reporting this, I was carrying.

I called in to the police and ask to have a report. It only took about 30 minutes for an officer to show up. I knew since it was a late report it would be low on the list but must have been a slow day.

Anyways he walked up and I already had my ID in my hand. I just handed it to him with my HCP on top and advised I was carrying. Just in case he might see it while we were looking at the car, bending down around the tires and such. He never said or ask anything about my gun beyond that which is how I felt it should be since I had not been doing anyting wrong myself.

sorry to hear about this. its unbelieveable that people go around messing with peoples cars just to be mean. tires arent cheap and i dont see what they could have gotten out of cutting them. i have a carport which the wife parks under, since shes usually the one carting the kiddo around and i have to park by the road (not in it), and every once in a while my car will get egged or broken into when the door lock was broken. also had the hitch stolen off of my truck. i just dont get people. nothing gets bothered if its not by the road though. i have 2 boats and a trailer parked in the side yard, and knock on wood, they have yet to be bothered. i guess what im saying is i feel your pain.
