scope for .22

just bought a savage mark 2 .22 what scope would you recommend

Depends on price range and its intended purpose.

There are plenty of choices out there but these two criteria are what determines the best choice.

the best that you can afford, but MAKE sure it has an AO that will go down to 25 yds or less.

Are you wanting a scope or a red dot? If a red dot, then I'd go with a truglo of some sort. I've got an open sight red dot on my mark III and it works great. Scopes however Im not that familiar with.

i put a leupold rifleman 3-9x40 on mine. its overkill though. im gunna replace mine with a redfield 2-7x33, and put my leupold on my 30-30.

Mueller APV or APT are good 22 scopes. As a amtter of fact the APT is a decent centerfire scope as well for the money. The APV runs about $120 and the APT runs aobut $170. The APV has a 1" tube and a duplex type reticle while the APT has exposed target style turrets, a 30mm tube and a mildot reticle. Even the Centerpoint scopes at Walmart are decent as long as you are not turning the knobs a lot. They will hold a zero but don;t track all that well when dialing in your holdover. Vortex has a loarge following and they have several models available in about every price range imagineable. They alos make one of the best "budget" red dots, the Strikefire.

Although not required I use a mildot on my 22's. The reason is I can use it for a quick holdover out to about 175 yards. I just chornograpgh the ammo and then make a dope sheet for the gun.

I've been down this road. Dolomite has good advice and I have used Muellers mysel. However, for about 150 bucks I don't think you can beat the Weaver 2.5-7x28. It is the perfect field .22 scope - an elegant sufficiency. It balances well on nearly any practical .22 and gives you clear glass, enough practical light and aesthetically doesn't overwhelm a .22. On the other hand Nikon has come out with a BDC rimfire scope that has caught my eye and I may get because I like to shoot a variety of .22 ammo. I am curious if I can match specific .22 bullets to the various BDC reticles on that scope on one particular .22 rifle.
