Review: Primary Arms Flip To Side Magnifier Mount

Two weeks ago I received the Primary Arms Flip To Side Magnifier Mount I purchased. I am so pleased with it I wanted to give a short review.

The spring loaded locking system locks firmly into place both in-line and flipped to the side. To flip the mount all you need to do is apply backward pressure on the mounted optic. The mount remained firmly fixed to the rail after 80 round range session. This mount is way beyond Airsoft quality. These mounts are legit.

Yes, that is the PA M4 standard mount and it lines up perfectly with the flip to side (standard) mount.

Saw these being peddled at the gun show in Knoxville yesterday. Looked much stouter than I had imagined. They had it mounted behind an Eotech in a tall mount. Looked good and functioned easily.

D3vo, are you using one of the "inexpensive" magnifiers? Less expensive than EOTECH anyway? Are you happy with it?

Dunno if all the inexpensive ones come from the same factory. At a gun show a dealer had a bunch of the inexpensive magnifiers, which seemed sufficiently ruggedly-made for an amateur, but the optics were lacking. Looked thru several, and the focusing seemed different on each magnifier, the eye relief was not good, and none were especially sharp. Maybe could have picked thru every one in their inventory and found a sharp-focusing one, but there would still have been the short eye-relief issue.

Was just wondering. If all the cheap ones come from the same factory it would seem pot-luck whether ordering one would give any better results than what the dealer had on display. But maybe some distributors sell "what looks like the same thing" that have better optics?

Lester,

The review is my personally experience with the one purchased through PA. No idea who is manufacturing them or if quality is hit and miss. I can tell you it meets my needs which is not military or police.

Thanks D3vo, much appreciated. Was just curious about the brand of your magnifier and whether you like it, because your review spoke mostly about the flip-mount. Didn't know if your magnifier came from the same place, or if you were happy with it.

Everything is from PA, but I did not buy the flip mount at the same time.

The magnifier is the PA 5X magnifier. If I had it to do over I would have gotten the PA M3 red dot which can be secured with a cantilever mount. This would move everything forward so I could get a backup sight on.

Thanks D3vo

Sounds like the PA magnifier might be better than the ones I saw at the gun show.

I'd eventually like to get some flip-up sights as well.

How far back can you move your eye and still get good use out of your magnifier? Maybe on an AR it isn't so critical, but my EOTECH is on an MSAR STG 556 bullpup. I like the little rifle but prefer to keep my head as far back from the ejection port as possible, just in case of the rare kaboom from defective hot factory ammo. Kabooms do not happen very often, but they do occasionally happen on any of the .223 rifles. If I got lucky thataway, would rather not have my cheek right over the ejection port.
