John Robinson at JMR Gunsmithing in Brush Creek does real nice bluing. I have had him do a couple of handguns for me and they have looked great. He does take his time getting around to it so if you are in a hurry you might not want to go that route. Reason he is slow is because he waits until he has several guns to blue to make it worth while to heat up the tank.

I used Perma Blue http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/blueing_index.asp?categoryID=1&subcat=5

It can be had at Wal Mart or just about any gun store.

Its quite simple to do it just takes a little time for that perfect look but still allot less time then sending it off.The steps are:

Clean area, apply blue remover and let sit then scrub with a wire brush.Repeat until all blue is removed.

To blue:Clean well, rub area with wire brush(like sanding before painting so paint will stick)apply blue, repeat all steps from cleaning on.

You can also get a good looking finish by just applying the blue with out using the blue remover.
