My neighbor wants a HCP

I've been walking out in the neighborhood and the other day my next door neighbor stopped me and asked if I saw/heard the ruckus last Friday. Of course I missed it, apparently around 6am the woman at the end of our block was outside screaming at the top of her lungs in her housecoat running back and forth to her car and front windows. Yelling. "OMG" and "Don't do it" while as my neighbor described muffled gunshots could be heard inside. She finally ran across the street to another house and called 911. He said there were three cruisers there when he had to leave for work and two later that day after he returned.

At this point I told him that and the crap I dealt with a few months ago is why I finally went and took my handgun carry course and sent in my application. His eyes got wide and I thought I'd let the cat out of the bag but he said he was just thinking about doing that but didn't know what he needed to do. He had a pistol once but sold it when his kids were born and regretted doing so. He had a bunch of questions of what was required and what I planned to carry. I invited him over and showed him my Glock 27, which he really liked and a .357 that I had just detailed with a dremel and polishing compound, his first words were "Ooow, shiny" like a kid at Christmas.

Hes a good guy, he owns a candle making factory and gives me candles anytime I ask, play golf on a semi pro level and has 2 twin girls in the second grade. Just a father wanting to protect his family and I was happy to help.

Maybe you could encourage him a little more with a field trip to Sevier Indoor Range some afternoon. They are a refreshing change of pace from the usual shop owners I visit.

It takes what it takes-- lots of folks have to have something happen to wake them up- until it happens to you, or in your neighborhood, it is so easy to stay asleep. Like, Hey, I got pizza, cable, and beer-- I am safe and I have no problems, right?

Then-- One robbery, carjacking, shooting, mugging, stalking, or worse--- and it's all different. Time to get the HCP & start stocking the home defense arsenal.

I'm glad it worked out for you to be there to guide your neighbor- keep it up and you'll have a local militia before long!

My dad is 66 years old, was in the Navy a few years in the 60's, but has never owned a gun. Last year when I got my carry permit he said something along the lines of, "Well, be careful." He and my mom live in Dawsonville, GA. They like to go hiking through the many beautiful state parks in the area. On New Year's Day, a young female hiking in a forest not too far from their house was abducted and subsequently murdered by a drifter. After that, my dad called me and said, "I'm getting a gun and a carry permit." He's since taken the class and is now applying for the permit. I think he's leaning toward getting a Glock. Good for him. Even better, Georgians can now legally carry in state parks and restaurants that serve alcohol.

My dad had a road rage incident yesterday where an Escalade followed him off the interstate and the guy got out behind him at the a stoplight to whip his ass, the light changed and he was left standing in the road but my dad has seen the light.
