How do I reduce the thickness of a piece of leather? Scrape, sand, rasp, something else? Have a piece that is at least 1/16" too thick to adapt as a sweat shield to an existing holster. Thanks in advance for any helpful hints.

When I'm making knife sheaths and need to thin down a piece of leather or fine tune the shape/thickness of a welt, I use my trusty ol' bench top belt sander with 160 grit. Works like a charm, just be careful not to apply too much pressure in any one place so as to keep the thickness uniform.

Luck!

There is a tool called a skiver that is used to thin leather. If you can't borrow one, and you only need it once, you may want to sand it. I'd advise you to wet it first.
