Hi guys,

I have a newbie question. I was checking out the Springfield Armory EMP the other day and I loved the way it felt. I did not get to shoot it though. My question is" It is listed as having a "short action". What goes that mean exactly?

How would that effect the way I would carry it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Springfield designed the EMP specifically for the 9mm round. The specs on the pistol is smaller than a traditional 1911.The grip frame is shorter and therefore uses proprietary magazines.Since they shortened the frame that also means quite a few of the internals are also made to fit only the EMP.As far as a carry pistol, all holsters for the Officer size frames including the Ultras will work. They are a nice little 9mm 1911 for sure.A person could do worse.

Im bad,I assumed you were meaning the EMP in 9mm,same holds true with the S&W .40

I just purchased mine last FRI and have run about 150 rounds through it.

+1 for what "krunchnik" said.

basically it is a 1911-style pistol specifically engineered and designed for the shorter 9mm round; it is not just a 1911 chambered in 9mm.

as far as shooting it, you really can't notice any difference. it is a very short crisp trigger pull, basically the same as most 1911s.

many people have this pistol as their EDC. since it is 1911-style, it has external thumb safety and is a SA pistol. therefore you would carry "condition 1" (aka cocked and locked)

While heavier than my .45 Kimber Ultra CDP II, it and EMP .40 are the same size. Both have been accurate and reliable pistols.
