Primers blowing back out

I reload 50 calibur shells and use 195 grain of BMG powder, 750 grain A-Max lead. My primers blow back out about .072 inch after firing. Can I locktight the primer?

I have found that too light of a load will cause a primer to back out but only if there is enough headspace to allow it to happen.

I know if I take a primed case and fire it without any powder or bullet the primer will back out. That is in my pistols which tend to be a bit looser than my rifles. The reason is under normal conditions the primer swells and grabs the sides of the primer pocket upon firing and seals it to the case. If you don;t have enough pressure to seal the primer inside the pocket it may back out but only if there is a headspace issue.

That might also be the case. The brass has had too many hot loads the the pocket is a bit loose.

I woudl start by double checking your load data and then your equipment you measure that load with. After that I would check your headspace to make sure it is ok. The finally I would check the primer pockets to ensure they are holding the primer.

I suspect it is going to be a combination of the things I said to check.

Having a headspace issue with a 50 BMG is a scary thought.
