Taurus fell apart

caster, talk to me. I am the king of cheap. When it comes down to it, glock is the king of value: simplicity, reliability, durability, shootability, availability. I bought a G19 that a guy's dog chewed up for a song. I did a grip reduction, as well as a stipple job and it looks like any other 500.00 dollar Glock I have massacered in the name of personal ergonomics. forget the pretenders in value - go Glock. Ohers pretend the same thing, but simply can't deliver. Yeah I wish that Glock didn't make 65% profit on each gun sold, so that I could buy more beer per gun bought, even so I think Glocks are still an economically sound product.

Ohh, you're too late. I drank a 44oz cup of Glock koolaid in one gulp. I'm in the process of trading off the last XD for another Glock. The wife is mad at me for being a Glock hater for so many years. Now that she's shot mine, she loves it and wants to know why she's had to do without. As soon as we can, we'll be a Glock 19 only couple.

As far the Taurus, it's fixed...sort of. The trigger is fixed as is the slide stop spring. The trigger, amazingly enough feels better than ever. I shot it today and I had several failures to fire. I loaded the ammo last week. I picked up all my brass and the primer strikes are VERY weak. I never had that problem before. Never. I figure the trigger is not pulling the firing pin back as far. The way the PT's work, they have a ten mile long trigger pull. That's because in the process of the trigger stroke the firing pin is completely cocked and released. It actually makes the PT one of the safest pistols to carry. Anyway, I'm going to tear into it tomorrow. I'll pull the pin, clean everything very well, and maybe stretch a little tension into the spring. The gun is precious to me, so it's not going anywhere. I won't be carrying it ever again and shooting will be very light and casual from now on. Once it's back to being reliable, I'm going to pack it away in my bug out bag. It'd be a very nice last resort pistol.

Back to the Glock though, I've been buying everything I can afford for my Glock. I've got a foothold on magazines, not enough, but a start. I'd like to have a dozen for each gun eventually. I bought a Lone Wolf barrel so I can shoot cast bullets because well, I cast bullets. :dunno: I also put an extended slide release and extended magazine release, though the mag release needed some file work to round out the edges and trim it down. It was actually too extended. When I get the wife one, I'll do the same to it and buy up an extra part or two every time I go to the gun show. They're cheap insurance.

I have a Ruger Revolver that I play with. It's a serious toy, not a serious tool. I wouldn't hesitate to trust it but it's just a toy. As far as I'm concerned, I'm done with other handguns unless [like the ruger] I just want a toy.

Caster,

Go ahead and box up your pistol to ship back to Taurus, call them back for clearance and ship it. Don't say anything other than it's broken and you'd like to get it repaired. In addition, don't say anything about having already called them to request it be repaired or have repair parts shiped to you. Warrenty repair centers are geared up to do thing's the way they want and each one is different. Once you get the pistol back you can either keep it or sell it but I suspect its going to have a different trigger block than the initial design was. Also, don't include any modded pins or parts, don't ask don't tell. Customer service tech's for firearms companies aren't always gunsmiths, in fact some may work for a call center not even conected with the company.

Baby steps. Now that you have seen the error in your ways and stepped up from Taurus to Glock; soon you will be ready for the next logical step…. M&P.

Well, More failures to fire today and getting worse. Some took 5-6 pulls to get the gun to fire. Something else is going on. BUT, I'm done. I have a safe in the attic where I have a few guns that I cannot, for various reasons, sell. They all belonged to someone or some sentimental something.... The gun now rests in its original box and is headed to the attic safe that I call the sea of forgetfulness, to which I will cast it. If I could sell it, I might put more effort into it. It's kinda liberating actually. Now I can take all my 45 acp dies and such and put them away [most likely] for good. This was my last 45 I had left. I'm done with the cartridge now. I have a close friend that has been shooting my inventory of 45 reloads. He'll be so happy to know he's going to be getting a good deal on the last 2K I have left.

I've talked about caliber consolidation before, though I don't believe anyone agrees with me about how relieving it is to rid yourself of another mouth to feed. But it is! Now time, effort and funds can be put into the only pistol calibers I actually like. 9x19 for work, and 45 colt for play.

Goodbye little Taurus, James Hetfield sings of your fate......

Who's offended? The turned into a pile of :poop: .

I may give it a while and then get some plastic pins for the frame and send it back. My name and the serial number is in their system though, if they made a note that the warranty is void ....I may send it back under my wife's name and claim she bought it used if I have to. For now it's in the box in the banishment safe and if I forget about it, I won't care.

Okay guys, I'm still mad at Taurus for refusing to sell me the parts, but.........I'm going to man up and eat this half cooked crow. I sent the pistol back. Cost me $55!!! I should have been able to buy the parts I needed for less than that. I sent it off thursday last week and the Fed Ex man just dropped it off. All I can say is, well, they done good. They replaced the trigger bar that I just bought, the trigger, the frame pins and get this......They replaced the whole grip frame! The only thing original are the slide and receiver block. They even put some new springs in there for the firing pin and recoil springs. It would have been cheap on everyone if they'd just sent me the parts but hey...It's basically a new gun. I'm not as thrilled as I should be about the grip frame. That frame had TONS of scratches and the stippling was nearly smooth. It had history. Oh well.

This crow tastes like :poop: but at least the gun isn't :poop: ....or so I hope. I haven't shot it yet.

So, you sent it in, got a one week turnaround, and as you mentioned, they returned to you basically a new gun!

The $55.00 stung, but all and all, sounds good to me. Especially if you add up all the parts they replaced.

What made you get rid of your XDs?

Glock with a Lone Wolf barrel.

I will go to my grave professing a love for the XD, but the G19 fits me MUCH better. Everyone is different and it just feels RIGHT. PLUS, Glocks are easier for paranoid delusional buts like me to inventory parts for.

I have one XD left. It's an OD green XD9 and it's going to the gun show with me this weekend.

I've never shot a Glock and I'm afraid if I ever do, I might have the same problem as you. I have 2 XDs and like them both.

Poor old Taurus. Ya'll really need to get ya'lls stuff together.

So I got my pistol back yesterday right? Yay me!

I got letter in the mail today. What a bunch of goobers!

Does you letter have a date on it?

Was wondering if it was the postal service that delayed it.

Yeah, I forgot that. That's what's funny. It was post marked the 13th. They received the gun the 9th and I got the pistol back the 15th. Two days for a letter is about right.

I just thought it was funny. They had the gun 3 business days[provided they don't work weekends] before they mailed the letter saying they got it. It matters not. If the gun cycles this weekend when I get to the range, the matter is closed. Still a point of humor though considering their refusal to sell parts, my over inflated, ego driven rage from their refusal, AND their record speed at which they repaired it.

We all over react, most just lie or hide it to save embarrassment.

I am still peeved about the grip frame. The repair letter says it was cracked so it HAD to be replaced, but there was a lot of drama and history witnessed by that pistol. I carried everyday for years. My wife bought it when we were just dating. It sat with me through all our good times and fights, and debacles. I'm sad to see the scratched up little turd go.

I hope you have a good range day with it. Let us know how that all goes.

Hey, at least their "repair" dept worked fast. That really was a great turnaround time for the "actual" repair.

btw.. Too bad they didn't return the "old replaced parts".

If they did, you would still have the old grip frame, and could then frame the frame! :pleased:

I called, I asked, they pitched it in the trash. I wold have gladly paid shipping on that. *sigh* Oh well, I don't suppose [from another's point of view] that I have anything to complain about.

I think they did right by you....Even though the grip frame is gone you should probably keep it for sentimental value...kind of like a dead pet's ashes ;-)

I will say I am impressed by what all they did for free.

I think I have heard that some women, after a number of years of marriage and maybe the couple ending up in a better financial state than when they were married, will have the diamonds/jewels/precious stones from their original engagement/wedding ring put into a new setting with a few more sparklies added. In such a case, the 'frame' is different but there is enough of the original left to maintain the sentimental connection.

Just think of it that way - your old Taurus has a new 'setting'. Some couples renew their vows. You renewed your gun (or had Taurus do it for you.)

WELL GUESS WHAT????!!!!!

I finally got time to try it. NOTHING!!! Light primer strikes still. So the wife made the comment that maybe it was something I was doing in with my reloads :hiding: So I got a box of Remington HD Ultimate Home Defense. I pulled a bullet with a kinetic hammer and tried it. It did fire but it was a very light dimple in the primer.

Here's a resized case I primed. It did not fire the primer:

Here's the factory case that did fire:

Ohh and look at this glorious pile of Shˆt from remington. I've NEVER seen a bullet come apart from a kinetic hammer.
