run and gun?

Is there anywhere in Tennessee you can go out on a "run and gun" course, or whatever they are called? I've seen them do it a lot on Nutnfancy's channel on Youtube, looks like fun getting out, and moving around instead of standing behind a table at a range.

For example: nutnfancy's Channel - YouTube

They'll set up targets anywhere from 15-200 yards along 'courses' and run the courses with pistol and rifle.

Anyplace in TN to do this? Just another reason I wish I had 1,000 acres :-)

Depends. Where are you located? One range, CHRPC near Chattanooga, you can shoot in three directions from anywhere on the range. They also have movable target stands that you can place where you like.

If you're in Middle Tn, CHMR. Charlie would be more than happy to let you run around the open field next to the range provided all your guns are unloaded. ;)

You could put loaded mags on the bench, run around the field and run up to the line as long as you're observing all rules for muzzle discipline. I would have to say, knowing some of the usuals there, it might be prudent to reserve the private range for this to avoid ridicule. He's got lots of open space around both ranges. Of course I am not Charlie so asking him first would be mandatory.

only a fool would stand still in a gun fight, so why practice that way?

I'm not saying the way they do it in the video is best. In fact I often wonder why they stand in front of targets instead of going prone, etc. It was more just the whole aspect of moving around and what not seems more exciting than shooting at the same target from behind a bench. ....plus it's good exercise :-)

Oh, you meant running from target to target. I just thought you wanted to get your cardio up before shooting. It will ABSOLUTELY throw off your aim. Me a few guys used to hike about a mile to an open field to shoot. My fat outta shape butt couldn't hit squat. Try it. Hike a mile or two, then jog 100 yards and drop and fire a round cold bore at a minimum of 100 yards. Showed me I was a bone fide couch commando:)

That's why there are stationary shooting stations and indoor ranges...for the old, outashape, fat guys with bad knees who couldn't outrun a zombie.

Why haven't you looked at shooting competitions in the area that move from target to target? There are 15 shooting clubs in TN.

CHRPC? I'm not familiar with that club? Where are they at in Chatt?

Once you find a place, just remember when you do first start off...safety is first and foremost, second follow the rule of "crawl, walk, run". Start off by confirming zero just so you know you're on. By crawling I mean do some "up drills" with your favorite EBR, some transitions from EBR to holstered pistol, do some "turn drills", if you're feeling froggy, some from the left, right and 180 turns. Once you're "warm" move to the walking stage. Some slow walks from 15 to 3 yards/meters doing up drills, move to some transitions while you walk. Once you get the forward movement down, move to some lateral targets. Get some from the left and then turn around and do ti from the right, again up drills transitioning as needed. Once you get good at that then move to your "run" phase. I've taught these drills to foriegn nations and US infantry squads for about 6 years now. I've got a lot more drills that can be described or shown if I had my computer with me that has the powerpoint instructions for the drills.

In a pinch without land though I would suggest checking out some of the IDPA and other competitions around. I know that will be my goal this spring and summer to start going to them.
