Winchester 12g pump

I picked up a clean little model 120 12g pump at the last gun show. I've had a 20g model 120 since I was 10 yrs old. Great guns.

THis one is a touch troubling though. The rotary bolt of the winchesters are known for being fast and smooth but this on may be TOO fast:) The recoil of the gun will cause the slide move and the bolt to open. It locks up tight, slides smooth as butter. I can't see any reason why, but under a normal grip and stance, not expecting the gun to do it, it will actually slide bar far enough to eject. It's not unlocked during ignition, that would be a death trap. Like I said it locks up tight, and the trigger must be pulled or the slide release pushed to take it out of battery. It cycles shells very smooth. It shoots very well too except the slide opening under recoil.

Anyone ever have a pump do this? I have no real theories but I an going to break it down and clean it real good and maybe put a little tension on the flat spring strut that rides the left side of the bolt.

LOL, most people want to smooth their slide action out, I wish mine was a little less smooth:p

Really? In all my years I have never seen an auto ejecting pump :D I have a real rare gun here :D

No, just one that works correctly...and in a desirable way. The Model 12 Winchester was promoted with that such a feature and it is one many manufacturers tried to emulate. Mostly due to the smoothness of action. The Remington Wingmaster, arguably one of the smoothest of pumps is also noted for it. In fact, after a shot you can almost chamber another shell with a quick wrist snap downward. Remember......I said 'almost'.:)

My wingmaster does this, and it's definitely a feature, not a bug. It's very nice when shooting doubles. Top shooters can cycle the action nearly as fast as a semi-auto because of this.

My 870 will do it. Some buddies and I were messing around with some throwers and slinging 5 birds at once. I was using my 870, and the other two had automatics. The short of the story is that I was the only one to get to all 5 birds before they went down. I know there is more to the equation than the gun, but the idea that I could shoot a pump faster and more accurate than my friends with far more expensive autos was both rather suprising and entertaining.
