Walther PPQ Merry Christmas to me!

Had been comparing the XDm 5.25 and the S&W M&P a few months ago when the S&W rep showed up at the range with a Walther PPQ.

Spent 5 minutes shooting it and put the others away. Geez those Germans understand handguns. Had been mulling it over ever since, and my lovely bride decided to play Santa.

Got a safe full of Sigs and Rugers, but this may be the most ergomic gun I've ever touched, just a thrill to shoot.

Worst part is she won't let me shoot it until after Christmas. I'm counting down the days like a 6 year old.

Looks great. I have the P99 AS and love it. Fully agree on the ergonomics. Walther is way under rated. Too bad you can't shoot it. Maybe she will let you hold it everyday at least.

I have the PK380 and the PPS both are excellent guns. Both feeds whatever I throw at them.

She keeps trying to wrap it up, but so far I've held her off. Think I've finally convinced her it's pointless, so may get it to the range this week!

From my understanding any sight's that fit a P99 with fit a PPQ. I know there are fixed night sights for it, but unless the rear sights start moving I'll probably leave them alone. Do have F/O on order for the front.

That's nice looking. I like how far forward the top of the grip is. I'm going to have to find a way to shoot one some time.

The ergonomics on the P99 and PPQ are outstanding. I couldn't find anything that felt better. Number one for me, Walther, number 2 M&P. I have the AS trigger and it is outstanding. I hear good things about the PPQ.

I shot 50 rounds through one about two weeks ago (and dryfired a couple more).

My thoughts...

1. The PPQ has the best trigger that I've ever felt on a polymer pistol. This (and it's great ergos) contributed to excellent accuracy.

2. I'm not crazy about "paddle style" mag releases...not a deal breaker, though.

3. I would have to dremel that huge-ass slide release lever. I experienced several "failure to lock back" after the last round was fired because my thumb kept hitting it. Again, not a deal breaker, as I have seen pics from other people who have done the same thing for the same reason.

4. It will be nice if/when better aftermarket sights become available (Edit, I didn't know that about P99 sights fitting...cool).

If I weren't so heavily invested in Glocks and their accessories, I'd get a PPQ. Played with it and a PPS recently, and was very impressed with the feel of both. The PPS looked like it would feel weird, but in the hand it was very nice. The PPQ beats even my worked over Glock triggers in feel, and has a faster reset as well. Probably make a great defense and IDPA gun. But I'm also Jonesing for an FNP 45, so who knows what I'll actually buy next!
