Does anyone know anything about the Ruger SR 1911? I'm thinking about buying one and I would like a real world review about it. Thanks

Welcome to TGO. Use the search function. There have been several threads on this model. If you don't find what you want ask away.

Nice gun by the way, especially for the money.

I've was able to find one this summer. I love it's looks and it just feels like a quality pistol. So far, I've put about 200 rounds through it with only one failure to feed in the first couple of mags (which may or may not have been a mag problem). I think you would be hard pressed to find a better 1911 in the same price range.

They look good and for the money, impossible to beat, I guess that's why I haven't been able to actually hold one, everyone is sold out.

What's the going price for these now? I didn't know if limited availability has kept the price up higher than expected.

On GB it looks like they are going for $799 and up. If you are lucky you can find one in the low $700's. I found a used one (like new) for $675 buy it now on GB back in July. They are still hard to find, only saw 2 on GB today.rugersr1911-1.jpg[/img]

I have one, and I probably have about 350 rounds through it. I've had zero issues with it. The trigger pull is really nice. The weight of the gun (being all steel) helps absorb recoil. I use the ruger mags and I have a McCormick I use with it as well.

The gun is more accurate than I am. As long as I don't anticipate the recoil, and I don't jerk the trigger, the bullet goes where it should. This gun was my third 1911. I also have an old Ithaca (army issue), and a Kimber Ultra TLE II (3" barrel, aluminum frame). The Ruger SR 1911 is my favorite to shoot - which is what I got it for. I wanted a fun to shoot 1911 that didn't break the bank. (Of course, I LOVE shooting all three of them, I mean its the 1911 platform!).

Now, the hard part will be finding one for sale.

WoW.....not sure I have taken the time to look at Ruger 1911. Very Nice, I think they may have moved to the top of my list in Next pistol purchase

Have not seen one, I mean not ONE, at any of the gun shows yet since released. Guess they sell right away with whatever price is on them.

I knew availability was an issue when I started looking for these in the early fall. Ironically I was doing a search on the SR1911 a few days ago trying to find out if supply caught up with demand. The short answer is no. I did find one guy that posted his local gun shop had 11 for sale, starting at $630. He then listed the dealer (located in Maine), and the next few posts were all the people buying them up and the inventory count going down. The last post was like December 5th with only 3 left in stock. I'm pretty sure they are all gone now.
