Heat and Way of the Gun

Yeah, the last scene in Way of the Gun was pretty good. I watched that movie just because of the last scene... and of course the first scene!

In Way of the Gun, the shootout in the motel parking lot with the sniper on the hill is pretty good as well.

I think Appaloosa deserves a mention.

"that was quick..."

"yeah...everybody could shoot..."

Me... I like the Honk Kong gun-fu scenese like the Killer, Hard Boiled, or Tide and Time.

Dangit - beat me to it by one post. I was about to say that it had to be either "The Killer" (scene at the end where the cop and the contract killer are facing down the mob hit team) or "Hard Boiled" (the scene where the Chow Yun Fat character and the 'honorable' bad guy are trying to take each other out.) As stylized, choreographed and unrealistic as those scenes are, I love how the characters use their environment, love the 'diving while firing' and other such things. Of course, although it really isn'g a gun fight scene, it doesn't hurt that the scene in Hard Boiled where the bad guys are just mowing down people as they attempt to flee the hospital had more on screen 'deaths' in one scene than the entirety of all the Die Hard, Rambo and Terminator movies combined (that scene used to hold the Guiness World Record for most on-screen deaths in one scene - not sure if it still does.)

Speaking of that, for those who like the style my nephew let me borrow a game called 'Stranglehold' for the PS3. The player character is 'portrayed' by Chow Yun Fat (a realistically drawn, animated version, anyhow) and the game was developed in 'collaboration' with John Woo. It isn't the best game ever but playing the gunfight scenes with the ability to do some Woo film inspired, gun-fu moves (you get higher scores for finding interesting ways to interact with the environment/make kills) is entertaining.

Over half the film length of Blackhawk Down.

Except the 100m grenade toss into a 3rd story window... they could take that part out.

I liked heat, but the big gunfight in the street has the cops all shooting at each other. There were more cops shooting in the direction of other cops than there were bad guys shootong at cops, lol. Directly across from each other even.

Gotta go with Open Range. It was my answer before I got past the first post.

Gotta agree with this, Open Range has a great shootout.

Hey, I was watching the movie Heat (1995) on bluray....this has to to be the best gunfight scene ever in a movie. What do you guys think?

Agreed. Can't think of one better.

I hava never seen any of the movies mentioned in this thread, but based on the youtube links, I have added a few to my "must see" list.

I am not sure that it truely classifies as a shoot out, and it probably is not the best. However, I enjoyed it, and I think it is at least good enough for a mention. The mountain sniper scene in Shooter. I could not find a good link. This is the TV edited version.

Snow scene in "Shooter". - YouTube

Collateral has some good scenes in it. And what I have seen in the trailers for Sinners and Saints, it should have some great scenes to. It is supposed to be on DVD in January, can't wait. And I have been told the gun handling in Sucker Punch is real good, but I haven't been able to make myself watch it.

As for Sucker Punch....not only don't bother, run...not walk, away from that waste of time. I foolishly started and regretably, finished it.

ok after watching it 3 times in 3 days I have one problem with Heat now.....you have guys robbing a bank with automatic weapons.... WHERE IN THE HELL WAS S.W.A.T.!!!!

Heat is definitely number one...especially cranked up with surround sound....Collateral's night club shootout wins the individual bad-a$$ award for Tom Cruise...however the final gunfight in Miami Vice (though the movie was a letdown) was pretty awesome with all the MP5's, the Barrets, and the shotgun blasts...all these movies do really make a good sound system mandatory. Another thing to throw in the hat for Heat is that (luckily) it was the only movie to influence a real shootout...North Hollywood Bank Robbery anyone?

Edit:

All 3 movies I mentioned all had one major thing in common....

Michael Mann was the director...he seems to have a gift for the gunfight.

like all the scenes mentioned........i was watching Zombieland last night, and the older chick used a Mossburg 500 with a pistol grip on the carnival ride. She had an endless supply of rounds. She fired off at least 15 rounds that I counted, the scene switched to something else, and she was back to the endless of supply of ammo again.

I know this is a older post, but I thought I mention a few honorable mention:

-An Act of Valor, the Dillon M134 mini gun was awesome!  I still get goose bumps each time I watch it.  I even watch on youtube from time to time.

-The Lone Survivor, the gun fight there, if that doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet!

I am going to watch some of the movies mentioned in this thread.  I have not seen The Heat.

Those are all good but how about the bar gunfight at the end of the Shootist John Wayne's last movie.

I agree the ending of The Wild Bunch was pretty good.

The reason I bought an FN FAL was The Wild Geese.

Joe Kidd with Clint Eastwood has a good gunfight as well.

I saw this thread resurected and thought it was the thread we were commenting on a couple of months ago. Since it isnt, I can "resay" everything I said before on a subject I like talking about.

The best gunfight scene(s) of all time are any scenes where Terrence Hill as Trinity never fires a shot but draws the other guys guns and slaps the hell out them,. Especially the scene with the bald headed dude with the backwards guns.

Followed by

Any scene where cool music follows Clint Eastwood who takes on 5 guys and kills them all in 4 seconds after telling them all he is going to kill them, followed by cool music.

Wahhh Wahhh Wahhh (In extremely rapid succesion) BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!......Waaaa wa waaaaa........(Followed up by cool E and A strings played on a guitar)

The final gun battle in "The Dogs of War" when the Mercenaries take the town.

And not a gun battle but "It's the American Way" from The Mexican.
