1911 Defense Ammo

So I wanted to know what carry ammo/defense ammo you guys stock in your 1911's 45acp of course. I know that each 1911 is a beautiful and unique snowflake and only likes to feed certain ammo, but what's working for you guys?? I just got my new Metro Arms 1911 and I want to load it up with some defensive ammo.

winchester elite PDX1, it is easy to shoot, and for it being 230gr. it's still quite manageable.

When I had mine I carried it with Federal HST.

Just got mine too. Havent had a chance to shoot anything but 30-40 hardball thru it worked great. Right not have it wrapped it plastic breaking in a new leather holster. Maybe I can get a few hundred rounds to see what she likes😃

Federal 230gr HST (not to be confused with HydraShok)

Speer 230gr Gold Dot

Winchester 230gr Ranger-T

Of these, pick the one that shoots the best out of your gun (totally reliable and most accurate).

All three are excellent rounds that provide superior terminal ballistics and low muzzle flash.

I usually buy mine from www.ammunitiontogo.com

During the first two range sessions, my Sig 1911 has eaten every JHP round that has been fed into it.

Golden Saber 230 gr

Critical Defense 185 gr

Hornady Custom 200 gr

Starfire 230 gr

Hydrashock 230 gr

I just got some Winchester 'Ranger' Talon series 230 gr. If it feeds well, that one will be my defense round. Can't find any Federal HST for the 1911, but found some for my P226 9mm.

The main issue is to confirm that it WORKS.

I have an American Classic that had feed problems out of the box.

I got it all worked out and just tested some JHP

Walmart has 100 round JHP for $32 right now.

I bought two boxes and shot it all and just saved 17 rounds (two mags plus one in the chamber).

100% perfect function

I'm not going to buy 200 rounds of Golden Saber to test out :)

My AC Commander has reliably feed all the aforementioned jhp ammo. You May want to check out Tnoutdoors9 on YouTube for his review of the Win PDX-1 available at WM, didn't perform well in the 9mm version. I have seen comments the PDX-1 is repackaged Rangers, butagain based on the YouTube video, I'm not convinced.

Remington 185 JHP plain green box

Winchester 230 JHP plain white box

Reliability! If you won't shoot enough rounds to ensure a particular flavor works in you gun (200+ IMHO) then I'd recommend a bullet that is profiled like (or is) FMJ. A lot of the manufacturers have taken this route and self defense ammo is now much more reliable feeding than not that many years ago.

Golden Saber has worked well in all my 1911s. I use it in all my 40 and 45 pistols.
