One of my fellow officers, was seriously wounded on a domestic call early this AM.

Sgt. Harold Cooley & another Deputy answered a domestic call after Midnight. The

male subject shot Sgt. Cooley in the face with a 12ga shotgun at close range.

The male subject was also wounded by Sgt Cooley as he fired his AR. Both were

taken to Vanderbilt in critical condition.

Sgt. Cooley is a great guy & officer. Keep him in your prayers. I spoke with a senior

officer this AM, and he said he lost one eye & ear, and pretty much one side of his face.

Sickening!

This is horrible! Men like this help keep us safe and this is what they get in return. It's unfortunate the perp was only wounded IMHO!!

Is the shooter dead yet? If not, he should be.

I don't love every cop I ever met, but ANYONE who points a gun at a badge.....well, he'll get his comeuppance one way or the other.

GOD be with this deputy in his hour of need, and comfort his family as well.

I've dealt with domestic violence cases for years in the legal system. There is no doubt in my mind that they have to be one of the most dangerous and unpredictable situations for Law Enforcement. My prayers go out to the Officer.

Prayers for Sgt. Cooley and his family as well as all those Law Enforcement Officers who put it on the line everyday. We don't thank you enough.

I hate to hear things like this. There should be special sentencing for people that shoot cops, if they can't just do away with the scum right on the scene.

I just got back from the hospital and he and his family are doing good. Please keep them in your prayers as he will have a long road ahead of him.

All I can say is that he is so much beyond a great man and friend.

What really is awful about this is the guy that did it is in the same ICU ward as him.

Somebody ought to visit this guy with a pillow.

Thanks, Verne, for the update. Strange that we were training on this senario just

a few weeks ago.

Harold's going to have a rough road in more ways than one. He'll be OK, has to!!

Please let us know if we can help in any other way. All LEOs put up with the scum of the Earth on a daily basis and sacrifice greatly of themselves even without this type of incident. In many ways more than anyone not a LEO or close family member will ever understand. It will be a long recovery to be had but it is how you get up, not knocked down, that writes the story. My thoughts and prayers are with your friend and co-worker.

I stopped by the Dept. this AM, & spoke with the Sheriff & Chief Dep. They said

Cooley made it thru the night pretty well. Has quite a bit of drainage from the wounds.

He can squeeze your hand when you talk to him, according to the Chief.

Best news....he survived. Difficult road ahead at best. He's young & tough.

A big thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. Know he'll appreciate it.

I just got back from the hospital again but did get to see him this time. I can't say how great it was to see him. They have him on some pretty serious meds so he is not saying a lot but still got to see him. All the local LEO's that were there got a chance to visit him too.

He is going to have to heal for a while but the most important thing is he is still here.

Don't know if you all have seen this. Reportedly, it's a part of the Welcome Home for Sergeant Cooley, as he returns from a week at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Sorry for not keeping everyone in the loop but I haven't been home much since he got home.

I got to spend the day with him yesterday, pulling PRN duty as his wife called it, and got to show him this thread. He wanted me to Thank Everyone for the Very Kind Words, Well Wishes and Prayers. Said he would never be able to Thank everyone for everything that has been done.

He is doing great and is in great spirits.

Yeah, it was great to get to visit with Cooley yesterday & meet you as well.

He's doing great, all things considered. Good attitude, as expected. Sense of

humor still here. I told him some people will do anything to get off 3rd shift. LOL

He agreed & laughed.

The caravan escort was just awesome. Saw it go by my house on Hwy 231.

The outpouring of support from all the surrounding counties is phenomenal.

He still has quite a bit of medical issues to deal with, but he'll be fine.

I miss hearing him on the radio in the AM when I'm heading into work.

Get well soon & hurry back, 805. We all miss you.
