I'd really like to see the lashings given him by his pro-2A friends!

Read that in the paper this AM. Not sure what Bob's motive is here. He claims to be

absolute 2nd Amend., but then he makes this exception. Maybe he has a beef with

Some of the gun show operators, who knows. Of course, he had a very receptive

audience in the Tennessean.

Everybody knows this so called loophole isn't the problem. Hoodlums will get their

guns illegally regardless.

There is no difference, other than convenience, of selling at a gun show, or in

your own back yard. Both are legal as long as you're not in the business of

dealing.

Certainly didn't help our cause, especially on the heels of the DUI w/ gun of one

of our elected Reps. Gonna be a tough sell for new gun laws in our favor this term,

if this crap continues.

Someone needs to teach Gail and her ed. the difference between "duel" and "dual".

Bob does make me think of an interesting question. If we could get constitutional carry, but to get that we'd have to do the TICS check on all private sales, is that a deal you would make?

It's no secret that Gail is decidedly anti-2A. When she did her hit pieces on the so-called "guns in bars" bill, I repeatedly asked her why it would be a problem here when it had presented no problems in the states where it had been law for several years. I asked Adam Dread that as well, and he revealed himself to be the moron that he is.

Gail wouldn't reply.

Then, months after it became law, I emailed her again and asked her why she thought the "wild west shootouts" and "blood in the streets" that she predicted and would happen as a result and wrung her hands over never came to pass. Again, I got no reply.

She hates guns, gun owners, and the truth about both.

Clearly the words of a man who has made his money and doesn't care what bridges he burns now. Loose cannon on deck.

So, what does Bob Pope do now?

Should we make arrangements to not do business with him?

This might also explain some of the fun and games one of our members went through at the Nashville Fairgrounds gunshow, as described in another thread.

As far as I, he's still into the porno and strip club stuff. And supposedly got most of his money from selling off the family farm he inherited in the Symrna area. But in any event, don't understand this little outburst or why he'd be so upset since he sold his gun show promotion business.

:poop:WTF does a gun show have to do with felons ability to buy guns?

If you can't see the wisdom, then you simply don't have enough granola in your diet.

Bob has not been in that business for quite a few years now. He got religion and decided his new views and his business were not a good match.

As to his gun stance it isn't a surprise to people who have known Bob for any length of time. He will likely change his mind and regret his interview a few months from now. He has a history of doing things like that. He also said at one point he was opposed to carrying in parks where kids played ball because parents get all heated about those games and bad things might happen. He is full of contradictions. He usually changes his mind not long after he comes out with something like this.

His political endorsements have also been disastrous at times. He often regrets those decisions as well.

If I were a betting sort I would wager that gun shows will get background checks, private sales will be verboten and you'll have to report a stolen firearm as the ways to "control crime" in the next 20 years.

the real victory in the past few years hasn't been the rise of concealed carry will issue laws, it has been the complete lack of the massive number of wild west shoot outs that have happened. People have become more comfortable with the idea of people rolling around with guns. The downside of this is that people have become convinced that the background checks and hoops people have to go through are the things that have prevented the wild west style shootouts. So when a clever politician comes along and opines that every gun that changes hands needs to have a background check associated with it people will be receptive.

Which shouldn't be a surprise. For most people guns don't matter much. They go with what sounds good. And government checks sound good to a lot of people.

Pope being the shrewd businessman that he is, I would seek out what monetary advantage this public stance is going to offer him. Seems adverse to the Constitutional Conservative "small government" mantra he preaches. Makes me wonder what public persona he is attempting to establish, and what reward might be in the offing for his support of this issue?

The most likely result of the offering of his opinion, (and that is what this is) is designed to generate argument among the supportive firearms issue fraternity, showing via the Tennessean how those who would honor the Constitution have an insatiable desire to flood the world with gun toting criminals, caring not for the safety of the general population.

I've learned that there is no shortage of people in the gun community who are elitists when it comes to gun ownership and right to carry.

Pope is one of them.

I like Bob and usually respect his opinions. On gun control, he and I are on opposite sides. He has his opinion that somehow government has the ability to restrict a criminal's ability to acquire guns. Contrary to all facts and studies, he still believes it. In this case, Bob is a perfect example of someone who is going to believe what he wants to believe regardless of facts. I cannot understand why he felt it necessary to talk to a known gun-hater about it.
