I took out the full length guide rod and put in a GI plug yesterday... next I want to get some new grips (nothing wrong with the stock ones, I just want some alternates).

With that being said, does anyone know where I can get the stock grips that come on the TRPs? I'm talking about the black cocobolo ones. Do you think I should just call Springfield?

I didn't see them on their store, just a couple of the regular brown cocobolo ones. Still, I'm sure they'd love to sell you more stuff.

How hard was it to replace the guide rod system with a GI style plug? What parts did you have to replace?

Replacing the guide rod is probably one of the easiest "upgrades" you can do... you just break the pistol down and drop in the recoil spring plug and the guide rod. I did this for two reasons... first, it looks badass and second, it allows you to bypass having to use an allen wrench to loosen the guide rod during takedown. It is now WAY easier to take the pistol down. Here are the parts:

guide rod: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=230053

recoil spring plug: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=546705

Now, I got these two parts from Coal Creek for less than $25 but they only had a black (blued) plug... I wanted a stainless plug but I figured I'll probably want a black plug for the different grip configs I'll be using so I went ahead and got the blue one. I did order the stainless one that I listed about from Midway too, though.

Ok, here are some pics of the GI plugs... which way do you all like better with the brown grips? I prefer the stainless with the current config but I'll probably switch back to the blued plug when/if I get black grips.

Nice pistol! I have one as well. Bought it off a co-worker so he could buy another co-worker's black stainless still national match. Got a good deal too, $550! Love mine to death! Sleep with it every night. My wife claims it's coming between her and me! :D Of course, it occupies a place on the night stand.^_^

Heck no! She's just jealous. She's got nothing to worry about! I'm her's forever. :D

It's my house gun though. It's right here next to me now.:)

It's one of the best shooting .45s I've ever had. That's much improved from the mid 90's. A friend of mine had one and it shot consistantly a foot low. Pissed him off royally, since I had a Norinco that shot rings around his SA. ;) SA put a new front sight on it, but that only took out about 4 inches. He traded it for a Sig and never looked back.

That Norinco was a sweet shooting pistol too. All I did to it was put some Wolf springs and a solid rod in it. I think I had all of $275 in it. Sadly it got stolen in a break in almost two years ago, along with a Browning Hi-Power and a Colt .22 Peacemaker. :(

Did you buy it in K-town? I've been looking for a good gun store in the area.
