It's a great find. I thought from your initial description that it was an open top (...the 1871 notation...). I will join with others in opinin that this is a pretty valuable old colt. I dont know if ive ever seen one much cleaner around these parts. Check out Collector's Firearms and Cherrys Fine Guns on the first generation stuff. I predict that you will be pleasantly surprized.

Enjoy

It is a rarity to see one in that condition.

As I said do not do anything to it. Take a zip tie and lock the hammer down to prevent people from cocking the gun.

I would be intersted to see if it left the factory with those grips.

Dolomite

GREAT, now I can't play with it either! :wall:

But Domo I LOVE cocking it, C...O...L...T... makes me almost giggle...

SO, If i can't cock it, shoot it, or play with it, what's the use in having it??? UGH!

Well I foresee an Auction house in it's near future then...

(I'm in the process of opening a BBQ joint and Roadhouse right now and could use the extra ca$h...) since I can't play with it

Indeed it was a blessing about not going to the B G show...I however wouldn't take such a rare piece for the random folks to handle/breath on ect...

I also believe it's TOO NICE for me to own and I'm sending off for Colt paperwork ASAP...

I also have my family 1917 German Luger and .455 Webley, which I often shoot and would not sell, "we" as a military family have shot and enjoyed these 2 my whole life and I will keep them in the family..

1st gen colts has a set screw on the bottom to hold the cylinder pin in place. this is only on first gens, 2nd and 3rd gen are differnt. they have a spung pin you would push to release the pin to remove the cylinder.

just looked at the pics, yes yours is a 1st gen (lucky bastard) also i belive from things i have read your is either a civlian or officers model due to the 5" barrel.

enlisted got 7.5" barrels officers couls have had either the 7.5 or 5" due to there fights would have been in a closer range as apposed to the reguarler enlisted. also ranchers and sheriffs of the day could of had either.

i prefer the look of the 5" models better (it just looks better in my minds eye.) i have been looking for one off and on for years and know my funds will never be there. soooooo i will just shoot and enjoy my uberti. :wall:

I had a Sheriff model 45LC Uberti for a long time I'd bought new at an estate auction NIB and enjoyed it for a few years till someone stole it...I've wanted another ever since...this gun is clearly to valuable to carry and shoot...Thx for the info...

I would slap it back into the safe...think how much more it could be worth in 10 more years?

In 10 years ALL firearms could be ILLEGAL and I'm likely to get hung for possessing one by the PharO-bama~

I sure hope not ;)

With all the conservative folks nationwide saying they won't vote for Mitt or Newt when he gets the nomination, O is looking more like a winner all the time. And since he'll be able to stack the Supreme Court, good chance the gun rights issue will be revisited -- and with dramatically different rulings.
