454 Casull Manufacturers

Ok I am thinking after the new year I might add another revolver to the stable. I am a big fan of my Ruger 45 colts and I think the 454 Casull might be the way to go. My father in law has one I shoot occasionally so I know what I am getting into power wise.

The appeal is that I could you is mainly to shoot 45 Colts, but also the occasional 454. Question though, does the 45 Colt lose any accuracy in the 454 revolvers?

Also what companies should I look at, current or used. Here are the ones I know of

Ruger (If I bought one today it would be the Ruger SRH)

Magnum research (don't know much about it, but it seems to be in the same price range as Ruger)

Taurus (a little cheaper, but I think I would spend the xtra $$ for the Ruger)

Freedom Arms (A little too pricey for )

Am I missing anybody. Anyone have any other recommendations?

You just about covered it. T/C chambers in the Encore also. All are good. Freedom Arms makes the finest product - Period. I know I am biased, but I would go with the SRH simply because of the heft and the scope mounts. Put a red dot on the top and you have a great bear/pig thumper.

The loss in .45 accuracy is barely even measurable. 454 casull is not very fun to shoot. If you are using a SRH and reload you can actually make some pretty hard hitting 45 cold loads. Enough to where you won't want anything heavier.

FYI - believe it or not....Magnum Research and Freedom Arms both use Pinetree castings for many of their parts. Guess who Pinetree Casting's sister company is?

i have to vote for the ruger. i had a SRH in .454, with the 9.5" barrel and it was awesome. great shooter and easy to mount a scope on. you cant beat ruger wheel guns as far as quality goes. they are made to last, to say the least.
