Paracord Uses

I saw another thread on here about making a sling out of 550 paracord and it sparked my interest. I thought it would be cool to get a list of uses both simple and complex of paracord. I am new to it so I won't be able to start the list but I'm sure some of you on here have some good ideas. Also if you could post a link or show pics if it is something complex that would be great! You never know when something you saw on TGO will come in handy.

In SERE school we were taught to gut it and use the internal cords to make a net for fishing. I guess its uses would be limited only by your imagination. If you can do it with light cord or string you can do it with para cord.

I have used quite a bit of the stuff. I keep 200 ft of it in my car and another 100 ft in my carry bag.

Its mostly used to tie stuff down or hang stuff up. I couldn't imagine going camping without it.

The second highest use for me is lanyard cord. Anything that is slid into a compartment in my bags has a a para cord lanyard tied to it. It just makes it so much easier to get the tools out fast.

When I was a SERE Inst. in the late 90's we "taught" the same thing. The problem was not one of my fellow instructors had ever done. So myself and a buddy went about making one in our "spare time". It took the better part of 7 days or so to make it. The striping of the chute to harvest the para cord and breaking paracord down was rather time consuming. Then came the knots...those damn knots.... lots of damn knots... LOL Our net was 5 ft tall and 8 feet wide. Damn pretty it was but I assure you I would have to be rather bored and looking for something to do to ever do it again.

Although it is probably easier to list what you CAN'T do with para cord, I'll a few of my uses. My main uses are emergency rope. Whenever something needs tied up/down, I grab the para cord. I also made a dog collar and leash with it. And of course, I love those bracelets that everyone seems to have.

I wrapped the stock of my Hi Point 9mm carbine with it to take the sting out of the recoil. Used to feel like a little bee sting on my cheek, now not so much

Of course, there are a number of popular knives where para wrapping is almost de rigueur: Becker Necker and Eskabar, ESSE Izula, etc. Can use whole cord or just the lining. Done it myself to Necker and Eskabar (sold the Necker, though).

Also handy for lashing these or other knives to a pole to use as spear.

I make monkey fists, survival bracelets in various styles, and I'm pretty good at wrapping knives. In fact, I'm getting supplies and resources together to start making knives myself. I'm going to do para-cord wrapped handles exclusively to start out. I'm hooked on the stuff. I've always liked decorative knots and I'm naturally creative. I found a how-to for making a para-cord bullwhip and I'm seriously considering making one. I also just made a hot knife by filing down the head of an old soldering iron, works pretty good.

If anybody has something they've seen and can link me to a picture of it, I can more than likely recreate it. Or, if you have something you've been wanting to try out/see done let me know.
