One of the unfortunate side effects of having no state income taxes is that the state has to raise the money from other places such as high sales taxes, corporate taxes, and other fees. I'm an engineer registered in 10 states; my annualized TN renewal costs (bi-annual renewal fee plus an annual "professional privilege tax") are higher than all the other states combined. In order to lower the corporate taxes they'd have to raise something else to make up for it.

You are mostly correct sir. My "professional privilege tax" in TN was $400/year as a Financial Advisor. But we do have an income tax in TN, have had since the 1930's. It is called the Hall Tax after the gentleman that sponsored it.

Folks:_______________

Never complain about not having a state income tax. I would much rather have a sales tax that taxes EVERYONE who chooses to buy something; great to small, poor to rich, visitor to citizen. I am an old retired engineer; i paid the "infamous" $400 priviledge tax too. I will grant that while most all governments (...including the one in Tennessee...) are heinous, the sales tax version of taxation is better than the "income tax" version. The "income tax" can be gilflirted to fabor groups and pets. The sales tax cant.

Exactly. If you work for tips, you still pay sales tax. If you work off the books, you still pay sales tax. If you're here illegally, you still pay sales tax. If you're a tourist, you still pay sales tax. Hard to get out of, and that makes it more fair.

As would the Fair Tax nationally.

Hopefully Colt will be able to retain good craftsmen who know how to make guns. I heard marlin had some growing pains when they were bought by remington. I believe new marlin guns are made in Kentucky instead of the Northeast? I will never complain about my guns that have been built in the northeast. That area has a lot of good craftsmen with experience that know how to work/build quality. The worst thing any company can do is lose its skilled people.

On a side note, I do favor Tennessee's rev structure compared to my old home state Arkansas. The state income tax, that all workers pay, there is kind of high and sales taxes are just as high in most parts of Arkansas as here. I was able to by resident hunting and fishing combo though back home for about 35 bucks and could hunt ANYTHING without paying additional money. Deer, turkeys, bear, small game all for 35 bucks. TN hunting/fishing licenses are kind of expensive if you want to hunt big game. Even with the priv tax and higher hunting license, I still come in cheaper here than Arkansas. But West TN is sure not as pretty as God's Country in the Ozarks!

Some production was moved to KY and some into Remington's already existing plant in Ilion, NY. Dunno which are made where. There has been a lot of criticism about the ones put out since the Remington acquisition in '07 and even more about the newest ones since closing the Marlin plant in North Haven, CT last year.

Then again, much similar can be said about certain Remington products, too.

My posts may be filled with drama, but they are not negative. And no, that's not good enough for me. You owe me an apology . I am leaving this forum forever now, but you are a bad tempered person seeking attention. Well, you got it.

Glad thats over - Oh and first post and all that!

I'll take a sales tax over an income tax ANY DAY and TWICE ON SUNDAY...in fact, it was a MAJOR factor in my decision to more here; I wasn't even considering moving to any stat that had a state income tax. Most of the states I've lived in, except for Washington, had both an income and a sales tax (and many others)...the only thing that was good for was keeping tax accountants employed filing income tax returns for the state and the city you worked in and the city you resided in and on and on it went.

I would also point out that during this current recession...depression...obamasession; it's the states that don't have an income tax that have fared better than those with income taxes!
