iPad 2 Issues

Recommended Posts

Well here's the story, about a month ago my iPad crashed deleting everything off it. At the time I had a computer to perform a backup, which for the most part atleast got the screen back on. I no longer have access to a computer with iTunes on it and after exploring my iPad I noticed that I no longer have iTunes on it. Extreme inconvience for me. I do have access to a wireless network, but no computer to connect to. Does anyone know how I can put iTunes back on my iPad without a computer connection? I've exausted my options on the Apple website. Thanks in advance for any help on this issue.

Backup everything to your iCloud account. Then reset your iPad. This should fix the problem, however, I'm not sure if you can do a full restore without connecting to a computer.

Second option, go visit the apple store an have them do a reset, then restore from your backup.

I tried to get an iCloud account, I guess I fall just shy of the "be 10% smarter than the piece of equipment you're trying to operate". I'd love to hit up an Apple store, I need an HDMI hook up for it so I can watch movies on a projector....just don't have any in the country I'm in at the moment. I'll try to iCloud thing again and see if it will work. If not I may just end up "acquiring" a computer to do this, just not sure where I'll get it from yet, I figured I'd need a computer for it...stupid Apple products anyways....I hate technology.

I didn't realize you were out of the country. Have you updated to IOS 5 yet? If not, you will DEFINITELY need a computer, and the update should fix your problem as well.

not necissarily.

Lets start by going back to the cause of the problem. I myself am a jailbreaker (if you don't know what this means google it) and have worked in the Iphone IOS dating back to software 3.0.3, so I am very familiar with the issues that occur.

- First off, what firmware was on it when it "crashed" (because you said iPad2, I'm assuming 4.2.1 or more recent)

- Did you attempt to jailbreak the device (which lead to a boot failure,) or was it jailbroken already?

- I should make it clear that the Itunes App itself CANNOT be deleted unless you go into the bootrom and maually remove the app. Even if you did, the phone would still function and power on. Based on the fact that you don't seem to have a very good understanding of apple products, I will also assume that you didn't mess with anything you shouldn't have been, because you would already know what to fix if you had.

-If the battery is totally dead, the device will not power on, but will show a blinking lightning bolt in the center of the screen.

Answer these questions for me, and I can continue to help you. If you jailbroke it (assuming you know what that is) you do not want to take it to apple, because although hacking the iphone was made federally legal, it does void the warranty. I'll check back in a day or two.

That's why I said "should". I was assuming he hadn't done anything to cause the crash, otherwise I believe he would have stated he jailbroke it.

I would still run an update and restore from backup first.

you cannot update if the device wont come on. and saying it "should" is like shooting blindfolded.

Well as I stated in the first post, "I'm not 10% smarter than the peice of equipment I'm trying to operate". One of the guys here is smart on Apple products and he went into the general settings and I had somehow restricted the access to iTunes not allowing it to be seen. So it was me just not knowing how to work this thing.

I'm more mechanically inclined, technology is my enemy.

As for it crashing on me, I still have no idea why it did that. There was no new apps on there that hadn't been there for months, and I'm not sure which update I was working off of. I do not have 5 on here yet, I'm looking for a computer I can hijack long enough to put it on there.

My next battle is downloading books on iBook, althought I think I already solved that issue. It wasn't allowing me to download after purchase. It would tell me that I already purchased it and I needed to click download not purchase...or something to that extent, so after I figured out how to shut it down completely it started to download the right way finally. Did I mention I hate technology?

I can work on cars, I can work on guns, I can take most anything apart and get it back together, I can solve those stupid little mind puzzles at Cracker Barrel, but put a computer in front of me and I will screw it up...but I can take it apart.

You didn't know? That's how they do it in Johnson City, I got some folks here at work from around that area...the call it "instinctive shooting" or something to that extent. It was hard to make out the words throught his moonshined stooper.

Gunrunner32, I feel your pain. I've got an IronAge brain in a digital world. I have found locally that you must have an appointment at the Istore. The one time I was there i was made to feel like I was an idiot. Hopefully you can get squared away with help from NashvegasMatt. Good luck, Cheers,

First off he stated clearly that it WOULD come on, but was simply missing the iTunes app.

Second, you went into a whole realm that didn't address his problem. What I advised him to do was start with the easiest solution and work from there.
