AIM sports scopes

Anybody know anything about them? Are they a good company, are they reliable, that kind of thing. My mom is spending a little extra to get my brother something really nice for xmas and asked me if I could find something similarly priced so she could do the same for me. I was happy to oblige, and I've found a rifle scope that fits the bill, but it had no reviews and I don't know the first thing about the company.

They are generally regarded as budget, junk type scopes. For the cost of a AIM scope you can get a better quality scope.

Just out of curiosity what magnification and price range are you looking at?

Yeah. I'm not going with AIM that's for sure. I ran across a brand called Osprey and I'll just say that they need to be steered clear off from what I've read. I'm lookin at a Bushnell, a Weaver, or a Yukon. The Bushnell measures windage and elevation in milliradians and features a Mil-dot reticle, so that you don't have to convert from MILs to MOA

Unless you are making subsequent shots there is no need to convert mils to MOA. You use the mils on the reticle to determine range then dial the holdover on the turrets. The turrets can be either MOA or MIL. As long as your range card is in the correct format for your turrets it isn't an issue.

It is when you have to make adjustments on the fly after the "splash" where a MIL/MIL setup shines. If you see the "splash" is .3 mils low you just add .3 mils to the turrets if the turrets are in mils. Then cetner the target back up in the middle of the reticle. If the turrets are in MOA then you are going to have to use Kentucky windage on the mil raticle to make the next adjustment.

But having MIL/MIL setup keeps the confusion down to a minimum even if you don't have to maek adjustments on the fly. You can have one range card in MILS and use either the turrets for precise adjsutments or the reticle for quick holdovers.
