Pledge of Allegiance

I'm not a great Jay Leno fan but, I felt the following quote from him was worth passing on.

God bless America, God bless our military personnel, past and present, and God bless us everyone.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

And why would we want to?

I said it all throughout school. If you don't believe in God that is your choice. You don't have to join in. I don't go to Country A and say, "Your religion is a joke, I don't want to hear it since I do not believe in it". USA = Common sense out the window.

The country was founded by Christians, let's see if voters can vote to change that.

My daughter is in the 1st grade and says it every morning at school. I believe in the real America, the one the pledge is written about/for.

Yep, but we are lucky enough to have that freedom however it is a curse with certain issues.

No it wasn't. And they certainly didn't want any religion attached to the Government.

That said, and before I get flamed.... I don't have a problem with God being in the Pledge. It doesn't say who's God, it just says God.

I am suprised GSA doesn't do it as a rule.

We do a flag ceremony and say it for every meeting.

I should clarify it was founded BY not ON "Godly Men" Church and State, I know.

Yeh, they were mostly Christians and before you go off on that deist thing, make sure you understand

where you get the definition. There are several. Wiki may not be the best place to reference the

Founders religious beliefs. I'm not flaming you, strickj, but I ain't gonna use a peace symbol either:D

Incidentally, everybody knows that there was NO official pledge of allegiance until 1942, and "under God" wasn't added until 1954, right?

Thought I'd mention just in case this devolves to how the founders felt about the pledge or something.

My daughter started kindergarten this year.

The say the pledge every day.

There are several things that I have been impressed with about her school so far. The pledge being one. The other being that she was taught about the flag, and what it represents.

The most impressive thing was a coloring book they gave her. It had an eagle in it. The coloring book told a story of a group of kids at Grandma's House. They went into the attic and found a rifle. The anthropomorphic eagle arrives and tells the children not to panic, not to touch it, and just go tell Grandma what they found. The mantra was simple 'don't panic, don't touch it, and tell an adult.'

There is another thread on here about unloading your guns and locking them up when you are home. An unloaded gun is a useless gun. I keep two guns loaded in my home. My carry gun and my home defense shotgun. These guns are put up in accessible out of sight places. When my carry gun is not on my hip, it is nestled in it's little home. My daughter has been raised around guns. There was no mystifying secret about them. Since she was a toddler I would tell her in no uncertain terms "This is a gun. It is dangerous, you don't touch it unless Daddy is with you." This has paid off, and at five, she has no major fascination over seeing a gun. It is yet another object that she knows she is not to touch or mess with.

Now if only I could get her to stop announcing to the world "Daddy, your gun is showing!" when I get out of the car...
