Question about hunting/sport shooting.

I have a friend of mine that is coming in for a visit here soon, and he wants me to take him shooting with me. He is prior service USMC, but he has some things in his past that may make this a sticky situation for both of us.

He has 2 felonies on his record, and has done state prison time here in Tennessee in the past.

The question is this... is he legally allowed to go to a range, or hunting with me at all? I am just wondering... any answers will be appreciated.

Nothing about the felonies should prevent him from buying a hunting license. Possessing a firearm is another story, and one I can't answer. He can bow hunt if inclined...

A convicted felon cannot be in possession of a firearm at any time.

I don't think there would be anything wrong with that, but I personally wouldn't risk it. If he gets busted with a gun, that's a one way ticket to the big house.

...and remember he doesn't necessarly have to be holding it for him to be considered in possesion of it.
