I shot my first ever Buck tonight!!!!!

A beautiful 7-point off of my lease in Franklin County. I've hunted this property pretty hard all year & have only seen 2 deer since bow season opened.

This is the first Buck I've ever seen whilst hunting, anywhere!

He was walking through the woodlot, headed for my 'Vertigo' stand (a 7 foot ladder stand!) & stopped dead broadside at 55 yards. I centered my sights over his chest, set my trigger & lightly touched off Thumpy.

He dropped right there, without taking a single step.

25 years later, when I stopped vibrating enough that the Hickory nuts were no longer giving me concussions I climbed down & got my first good look at my first buck.

He's no monster, by any means, but you know what? I honestly couldn't care less! I do not think I could be happier if he was a 200" booner!

He's getting a full shoulder mount & all the meat is going right into my freezer (Except his tenderloins, which are sitting happily next to a very generous snort of 18 year old Single Malt! )

AWESOME A Rob....way to go! Don't need no ol' stinking 200 booner....that buck you got will make some fine table fare. I prefer the younger ones over the older bucks any day! Remember, old bucks are for breeding does and young ones are for eating!

I got my first deer (spike) on Thanksgiving. It was one hell of a rush and really enjoyed it. The hours of boredom is all worth the 1 min of action.

Thanks y'all! I just got finished caping it out for the taxidermist & butchering it for the freezer.

For those who asked, the rifle is a Lyman Great Plains in .54 It has a 1:60 twist, so it's really built for roundball. I stripped off all the factory bluing & treated all the metal with Clorox to dull it down, but I want it develop it's own natural patina. I decorated the stock with a few small brass tacks, to give it that 'mountainey-out-west' flavor. I've replaced the standard rear sight with a primitive, non-adjustable sight & the triggers were replaced with a set of very excellent R.E. Davis 'seerslayers'

I shoot 90gn of FFG Goex black powder, a .530 home cast ball & a .020 pillow ticking patch with home-made lube.

Very Nice! That smile will come back every time you think about it too. My first little spike 30+ years ago still brings a smile, of course the horned monster I missed before that still brings a little tear.
