My son shot his third deer for the season this morning...

Turns out I've been more of a guide/butcher this year rather than deer hunter. I wouldn't change a thing. He's 13, and he's really taken to deer hunting this year. So far, he's bagged a 4 point buck on the juvenile hunt, a doe with a muzzleloader, and a button buck with his rifle this morning. I haven't shot a thing. Here's him with the 4 pointer.

His little brother thinks he'll give it a try next year. This is what life is all about!

Tell him to keep a log or journal including time and date with pictures and a description of the kill. He will appreciate it in years to come. I wish I would have done it because memories become cloudy. I would love to have something to sit back and jog the memory.

Good for him,

I am on the same trend you are, two of them I have had to clean up this year have been gut shot, it's a good thing they were hunting on the property grab the 4wheeler and go...lol

He shoots a Mexican mauser sporter in 257 Roberts that was built by his grandfather. He's loaded his own ammo for every deer he's killed.

Good word there Greg! Nice gun, deer, and home brews. Great job

It's nice to see another generation of responsible hunter being molded. You're doing your son right teaching him hunting and shooting. Semper Fi,

Joe
